My how the mighty gators have fallen. I watched the Aubrun game last week and the LSU game this week and Florida has really lost the spring in it's step. Now they find themselves on the outside looking in on not only the National Championsip race, but the SEC race. So I will ask a question to all of you. Is this just a down year for Florida, or is it an early indication that Urban Meyer cannot recruit players into his own system? Since this is the first head coaching job he has had for more than 3 years it's the first time we have been able to evaluate him as a recruiter. Either way, i'm trying to figure out how to have fresh gator delivered for the Ohio game tailgate without breaking the bank!

Are you kidding? The thing is the Gators play very good teams every week. Compare their schedule with lets say osu and tell me who has it tougher.

Maybe I didn't convey my point clearly. I will try again. I am not talking about who has the tougher schedule, nor do I intend on comparing them with other school no matter what other school. I am talking about Florida having a lot of talent and not being able to put the game away at the end. It happened in the Auburn game and again in the LSU game. Urban Meyer has not been at a school long enough for his recruiting abilities to be evaluated. I am not sure he is the well rounded coach everyone seems to think he is. He can take the talent given to him and be successful, but it remains to be seen if he can bring that talent in. That is the whole point of my previous post. Time will tell.

He can recruit just fine. You're going to have some growing pains breaking in nine new defensive starters and breaking in a new starting quarterback, running back, top wide receiver and a couple offensive lineman. The talent Florida has been bringing in the last couple years has been on par with USC.

Right....explain why BG had such good talent that he recruited? Or Utah for that matter? He lost to the #1 team in the nation, and all of a sudden he's not a "well rounded coach?"

Also, he is probably the top offensive mind in the country and out-coached one of the best coaches in the nation in Tressel.

Well then lets go back a little further in BG history. Gary Blackney was touted as the second coming of Doyt Perry. He had much success with the talent brought in before him but could not replicate that success with his own recruits. Now Urban Meyer comes in and has success with Blackney's recruits but we do not yet know what he will do with his own. Maybe coaching is cyclical. Maybe, with a few exceptions, a new coach has an easier time looking at a program with a fresh eyes but those eyes get cloudy as far as where talent should fit into a system the longer they stay. There are exceptions, Woddy, Bo, Bear, but I would say those are few and far between. Why is it so hard to say Urban Meyer may not be one of these coaches, but we will have to wait and see?

I would gladly take him back, should GB move on, at BG. I think people have this fantasy at the college level that coaches should win every game at the big programs and even at the mid-major level.

Bo, Woody, Ara, Bear, Doyt, and many other great coaches lost multiple games in one season and still turned in great careers. JoPa may never have another undefeated season but I would hope most would respect his career.

Too much pressure to have a perfect season at the college level. The national title hunt is too elusive with one blemish. So the argument for the playoff system.....one lose and your out of the playoffs. Double-elimination anybody?

They may be out of the National Title race, but as for the SEC, these standings would disagree

Florida isn't done by a long shot. For reasons already given, they've had a tough road lately but Meyer is still one of the best coaches in the country.

I won't be a bit surprised to see the Gators in the SEC title game. Losing the #1 team at the time is no shame...yes they didn't put them away but how many teams win in Death Valley? Auburn is a solid team. The whole SEC is loaded...there ain't a conference on the planet to compare it to.

it's all about the coaches. Look at who the coaches are in the SECcompared to everyone else. then look who the Big Ten has had lately.

Big Ten in another year or two will be back. Coach Dantonio, the Zookers at Illiniois, possibly Les Myles at UM (even if it isn't Les Myles UM is an attractive job for some top coach to go to), Indiana is much improved, Penn State is always tough as well as Wisconsin and Iowa will be back. Then there is Tressell who s the best coach in the Big Ten by far (love or hate the bucks you can't deny it).

The Big Ten has dropped lately because the coaches suck. Michigan sure isn't helping matters. They took it from the big two of the big ten to the big 1 (OSU).
