Dials says no one wants to play at Akron yet the Falcons get Temple in, UT scores Vandy and I understand Tennessee next year, other MAC teams have brought in name teams as well. Moreover, Akron won't play top teams on the road. In Daniels' Senior year BG didn't play an earth shattering schedule but they did play Nebraska twice and Purdue on the road.
In Stacey's last year they won 22 and played WVU on the road. OF course they got pasted by 45 or something but they played them. UT played Auburn, Creighton, Xavier, George Mason and Cincinnati in Stempin's senior year and won 4 of 5. Akron shot themselves in the foot in the very year that they had their best shot at an at-large bid.

Please excuse my ignorance but I have several, possibly stupid, observations from my quick read of the article. How many top programs do they expect to visit Akron per year, one? Will one home game against a top program improve their RPI enough to put them in the tourney? Why don't they look for top programs to play on neutral floors in holiday tournaments (since they haven't played anyone from the top conferences for a few years)? Since LeBron is such a pal of the program why don't they play some top dogs up at The Q as a sort of neutral court home game? And finally, hasn't LeBron said he would have played at tOSU as well as Akron if he would have played college?
It seems to be a long rant of stupid whining by a program that expects everything to come to them as though they are owed something (or feel they can buy it). BG schedules better on a limited budget in little ol' AA.

I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

There was a HUGE article in the Akron Beacon Journal about the state of UA athletics. I mean this sucker was 3 pages complete...at least it kept OSU off the front page for one day.
Anyway, the UA AD wants Akron to be the Boise State of the midwest and thinks the Zip program is just about there. Really? Since when? I have to hear evey year how Brookhart is bringing in the best classes in the MAC every year but ya know, I don't see it.
I'm more concerned with Temple and Buffalo in the East than Akron.

Akron has the best recruiting classes? I thought it was BG, no, wait Temple, errr, UT, I mean, Kent, no make that OU...One reason I don't care that much about football is that people get so worked up about recruiting when they should be worked up about basketball and indoor track! Talk about a meaningless argument- the team with the best recruiting class each year is the one that wins the MAC four years later. End of story.Falconfreak90 wrote:There was a HUGE article in the Akron Beacon Journal about the state of UA athletics. The MAC got us that game. When Temple was accepted as an affiliate in football, part of the deal was that the Owls had to play some basketball games in MAC gyms.h2oville rocket wrote:Dials says no one wants to play at Akron yet the Falcons get Temple in,
If memory serves, wasn't part of UT's guarantee for playing the road side of that deal a gift certificate to Dick's?UT scores Vandy
Anyway, I'm somewhat sympathetic to Akron's concerns. Historically, Bowling Green has not had an easy time getting interesting opponents to play at Anderson Arena.
That said, if they refuse to play one and done deals on the road, their schedule will be soft and it will hurt them in March, no question.

Yep. Its nice when you play the SEC- when we get a game with CUSA its a gift certificate at Play It Again.Schadenfreude wrote:

Of course we then turn that around and sell it to Ball state where they have NO basketballs in the gym.
