It is hitting the fan here in Indiana. As an outsider, it is interesting to see the reacion of Hoosier fans. Some think that IU is still the premier team. A lot of comments attached to the story.

I forgot to add. When this was first mentioned Kelvin threw one of his assistants under the bus. Dakich then became an assistant. Two former MAC head coaches are the top assistants there. McCallum and Dakitch.

Surely Indiana doesn't want to completely ruin their hoops program...right?

I think only Harold Anderson may appease many of you.

It was "ruined" under Larranaga

It was "ruined" under Dakich

What exactly does ruin mean?

It was totally ruined under Larranaga. HAHA I would pay triple per season ticket to watch Jim Larranaga talent level teams play again. He coached in a MAC era soaked with incredible talent. Just never was able to get over the hump. Sure beats John Floyd and "Moon" Robinson. BTW, he was the first person to speak of how difficult road wins were to come by in this league because you got "very few calls." The same thing BG's team faced last night.

Dan had a successful first half of his tenure in BG, but I think it's fair to say that he ruined the BG Hoops program when he returned from WVU. He lost his team that day, and he never regained it. His last 5 years were marred with transfers, and players quitting. The players that stayed routinely told our recruits to avoid BG, and most of the remaining players were not talented enough to lead Division 1 programs.

The 2nd half of the Dakich tenure was absolutely abysmal. Whether it was his pure coaching ability or the WVU fiasco that caused it, I don't know, but either way I think it's fair to say that Dan ruined the BG hoops program; even if he was pretty successful in his first 5 years.

Personally, I cannot see IU handing the reigns of that program over to a coach who was deemed a failure at the MAC level. Even if he is one of their own, and he "shut down" Jordan, I just don't see it happening.
