He is kicking players off of the team he most likely will not be coaching next year.

I think this whole interim thing went to his head. If he was the full time coach, then I wouldn't have a problem with this. But these guys never signed up to play for Dakich or by his stupid rules. If he can't show some flexibility given his tenous position with IU, he never will. He thinks he is bigger than the team. Get over it Dan. You aren't the coach.

So if my boss leaves the university, I don't have to follow the directions of his successor?

It sounds to me like Bassett thought he was bigger than the team. He missed 3 games UK, Western carolina, and Coppin St., due to suspension, all OOC games while Sampson was the head coach. Sounds to me like DD just had to clean up a mess Sampson brought in with that kid.

You are right about Bassett, he was (is) a problem.

Sounds like you need to get over your feelings against Dan. You have no idea what lead to this. And do you honestly think that this decision was made solely by Dan without the approval of anyone else at IU?

That's stupid. A business/university setting is entirely different than a coach. Coaches have different styles. Let's just say Sampson was probably a "player's coach" while Dakich is a disciplinarian.
FWIW, this coaching style issue is how we ended up with Jackubowski. He was commited to Rice but they changed coaches. The NCAA recognizes that players sign up to play for a certain coach almost as much as for the school. If said coach leaves, player is allowed to de-commit and go elsewhere with no penalty. As to the IU situation, those guys might be thugs or whatever you want to call them, but they didn't sign up to play for a guy who was supposed to be Dir of Oper then some how ends up being the head coach.

Well, we're going to disagree then, because you are wrong.
Wrong above and wrong when you state that Dakich is not the head coach. He is the head coach or interim head coach if you want to be technical but either way - he reports to the Athletic Director as the "Man in Charge of the Basketball Team."
Dakich is gone and some people need to get over their hatred and contempt for the man.

Why? What difference does it make if some of us still can't stand him? This is in the other schools forum. We can hate him forever, what's the difference to you?

I'm sort of indifferent at this point, but Dakich isn't doing much to help the disenfranchised "get over him" by sticking it to us every chance he gets.
I certainly can understand the contempt for him given what's transpired since he left, not to mention the state of the program when he left.

It doesn't matter to me at all. You can go around with bad karma and a sour aura if that's what you want. But you should remember to turn that frown upside down and smile.

Has he really "stuck it" to Bowling Green fans? It's easy to go through everything a coach says to the media, pick out what we want to read, and hold it against a coach. I haven't had to look far to find many good things he has said about BG, the program, and the current group of players. Do we all say good things about our former employers when we leave? Or, is just that our comments don't get printed?

INTERIM! Yes he is the acting head coach. That means he is just supposed to guide the program threw a difficult situation to the end of the season until they can bring in a qualified replacement. He is not supposed to try to leave his mark on the program, unless it's another black eye.
I don't hate the guy and don't have to get over anything. I call it as I see it. The man did some good things. But in my opinion, he could also be the biggest horse's ass you could ever meet. I am fine with my opinion of him. You are free to have yours as well. I don't care if you and others want to love him. That's your perogative.

I'm wrong? You are saying that a college sports team and my job are the same? An interim coach and my boss are the same? Yes, we will have to agree to disagree.

Guest, I was one of those that liked Dan, but since he left, I do feel he has taken unnecessary swipes at BG. I would like to see some positve things he said about BG. Please inform.
