Cinci QB suing NCAA over eligibility

NCAA ruled last week he couldn't get a sixth year and play this season. Law suit was filed in Kenton, so it should be big news around here.

So, there is really no explanation as to why he feels he should be allowed to play one more season. Was he injured? Is he not done with school yet? Why does he need a 6th year of eligibility?

I believe he was injuried in Wake's first game of the 06 season and missed the entire season. That was the year Wake had their breakout year and he transfered to UC I think during the season. I read the reason he keeps getting denied has something to do with the information or lack there of that Wake Forset gave the NCAA about his time there and the injury

From I read about the ruling, the point of contention goes back to his red-shirt season. He did not play his first year at Wake and was red-shirted. Mauk's been arguing that he was actually injured that season as well and could not play. I think Wake has not provided sufficient info to prove this claim. The NCAA doesn't want to allow him to red-shirt for non-injury reasons and then get an extra year because he was injured in another season. If he can prove that he did have an injury that prevented him from play his first season, I think the NCAA would give him a sixth season.

This is interesting as I think it will impact if Ransom would ever be granted an extra year. Of course, I don't know the extent of his current injury. He may not want to play another season.

I talked to my dad a bit, as he's a UC alum and follows the team very closely. So Mauk is kind of like Ransom - he's spent probably half of his career injured. I don't remember if my dad said it was his hand or his shoulder, but one of those two had metal plates in it during the entire 2007 year. He has missed two entire seasons due to injury but only got one redshirt - not a medical redshirt. All of that adds up to a good fight for a sixth year, but it has been denied. It is very rare to get a medical redshirt in this situation, especially one involving a transfer. Doesn't lay a good foundation for Ransom, I'm afraid ... :(

Waah! Hard to feel sorry for this kid in this situation. He tried to play the system and it bit him. It all comes down to Coach Kelly. Karma strikes D bags. :)

It was his humerus (that bone between your elbow and shoulder) and it shattered in the first game at Wake. Pretty gruesome injury, check it out on youtube if you wish, i'm sure its on there.

Uh Kelly really has nothing to do with it, this is mostly about the info Wake has or has not given the NCAA. Also to some in Cincy it appears Kelly is tried of all the whole Mauk situation and just wants it to end
