Blade headline-Rockets not taking Fresno State lightly

The headline makes it sound like Toledo is the top 25 program and Fresno is some 1-AA program strolling into town for a payday. The article doesn't really seem to reflect that and gives Fresno State its proper due.

I thought the same thing when I read that.

Fresno State wins by 17+...that is a loaded team and I just don't see UT keeping up with them.

Well....we kicked the crap out of them statistically. Gave up three big plays that killed us, one of them sheer lack of attention. Fresno acted like they had pulled off a huge upset after it was over and perhaps they had.
Unfortunately we had two major injuries. Hopefully at least Collins will be back next week or the week after. Our second string backis a Freshman and struggled against Fresno as it took him 24 carries to get 148 yards. Collins had done it in 15. Bottom line though-we lost. Back to the drawing board.

I couldn't see any of the game. But, I liked the call to go for 2 in the 2nd OT. Sorry UT came up short.

I liked the call, too, but Amstutz whipped out the stupidest play call in the book for it. My dad and I were watching the end of the game and just kept saying "WTF was that?!" over and over again. Crossing patterns over the middle of the field on a two-point conversion give me a headache. Tommy Boy should lose his man card for that one.

I for one thought the call was retarded. You're at home. You're in overtime. The crowd noise has got to help. You were just 1st and goal and it took up to 4th and goal to get in. Obviously at the current moment your offense isn't moving as well as it had earlier in the game and is having problems in close yardage situations. Remember, it took 4 times to get right about the yardage they needed to get with only 1 try. Kick the extra point and try again later. Now if you're on the road in a hostile environment or if your offense has been sparking recently, especially in close yardage situations, then yes I like the call.

I was OK with Amstutz decision: guys were getting hurt, it was late, the field conditions were slick for some reason-play was maybe odd but it was hard to tell since the D-lineman blew the thing up immediately. I'm not really sure what was SUPPOSED to happen. I think I'd have rolled Opelt out or just handed off to Williams since he was gaining yards at a 7 pc clip. Probably why I don't coach. Nevertheless it was about as exciting a game as I recall in a long time. I have no voice today

The crowd noise has got to help.

It's a MAC stadium. Let's all be serious people. Crowd noise really ain't a factor, I don't care where you're at in the MAC. Happy Valley, Big House...that's when crowd noise is a factor. (Before anyone jumps on me, I LOVE MAC football, and not being all "big ten". s**t is what it is...and, unfortunately, MAC stadiums are quiet). Toledo went for 2 for a reason. Probably a reason we won't know. Either way, I liked the call. They went for the win (and didn't settle). Gotta respect that.

"crowd noise"

I was there- it may not be a Big Ten stadium but the end zone had been loud and very raucous all night. I honestly can't remember UT students turning out in the blue and gold en masse and making noise like they did Saturday. It was very loud and I was at the fifty yard line. A lot of folks had left while it was still Saturday but even after it had been Sunday for awhile the endzone was packed.

Wow, was I wrong on that one. I think Fresno was a bit down after losing such a tough game to Wisky the week before but damn, give UT credit for playing hard all night. That was one of the best games I've seen in a long time.
Opelt makes all the difference for the UT offense...if he's running the show, look out. UT's D is still pretty bad but the offense can move the ball and score.
I thought it was a great call on Tom's part to gp for the win...say what you want about him...he plays to win all the time.
Great effort, UT.

Not sold on Opelt's arm yet-VERY strong, he was throwing forty yards off his back foot, sidearm, but he was mostly high and behind receivers much of the night. Leadership on the other hand, seems solid and he did some nice stuff with his feet for a 230 pounder. Our RBs on the other hand are hard to find fault with.

Definitely....the UT RB's looked very solid.
