have 7 starters back led by the best player in college ball, Tim Tebow, on O for the 2009 season. The even scarier part??? The ENTIRE 2 deep roster on defense returns...
I will be very shocked if Urban doesn't win title #3 in the last 4 years...this Gator team could very well be the greatest of all time IF they run the table and win it all.

I still believe that the 99' florida state team was the best ever as far was what they did and what nfl players it produced.

The 1970 University of Toledo team. Nobody beat 'em. Nobody could. Still never been a team in the history of college or NFL football that could have beat them. Prove me wrong.

I'm guessing that the teams that were ahead of them in the polls...all 11 of them...could have beaten them.

If only the polls actually meant anything that close to reality.

What team was it from the UMiami that ended up having 6 first round draft picks? Late 90's??? Warren Sapp and the boys?

the 01' miami team was a machine as well, but i still have to go with the 99 florida state team.
99 fsu team = wienke, warrick, travis minor, ron duggans, boldin, snoop menis, sam cowart, tommy polley, peter boulware, wadsworth, laverneous coles, tae cody, chris hope, janikowski, corey simon, darnell dockett
01 miami team= portis, gore, andre johnson, ed reed, phillip buchannon, antrel rolle, dj williams, johnathan vilma, sean taylor, vince wilfork, bryant mckinnie, kellen winslow
Those are 2 pretty impressive teams right there that both went wire to wire at the number 1 team in the country.

BG has won a NCAA hockey (1984) and football (1959) title, has Toledo? Just asking.

Toledo has a couple titles, yes. And you left out a few BG ones such as Dave Wottle's NCAA titles in the 1,500 and mile and Sid Sink's steeplechase wins. There may be others. Toledo was also runner up for the National Championship in basketball in 1943 when the NIT champion was considered the National Champ. And they did it with an all-Freshman starting lineup for most of the year. BG was runner up for the indoor track title back when I ran at UT.

Toledo had a run that still stands as the longest win streak ever. Had USC beaten Texas in the Rose Bowl national title game, USC would now have it instead. It was some ridiculous amount of wins with QB Chuck Ealey. And Ealey's story was sad, really. He was likely the best QB at the time, and certainly the winningest, but he didn't get drafted or even considered. Most everybody credits that to him being black - at the time, nobody wanted a black quarterback. It was really, really sad and pathetic. Now, just to pile on the crap to what Chuck couldn't accomplish, he's not in the Hall of Fame and will never be unless a rule is changed. Its a travesty if you ask me. I have a whole lot of respect for Chuck Ealey and I hope before he dies that proper changes happen for him to be recognized as a Hall of Fame QB. A bit of info about him is here:

I think Chuck Ealey is the only QB in NCAA history to never lose as a starter in HS or college. I had a chance a year or so ago to watch a replay of the Grey Cup game from his rookie year with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger Cats. The field is wider and longer in Canada and there's some other rules that makes the game a little more openn than the US version. Under those rules you could really get an appreciation for the pure athletic talent Ealey had. He was like Mike Vick before Mike Vick....and he was waaaaaay nicer to dogs.
Didn't Nebraska have a ridiculously long winning streak about the time Toldedo was running the table? That might have stolen some thunder from Ealey and the Rockets

You were talking about the 1970 UT football team, and I said BG's 1959 football team won a title, has Toledo?

No, but then neither has BG. BG was "named" the 1959 National
Small School champions- they didn't win it and I'm not sure who named them that. Syracuse was named the national champion that year. BG had a pretty good year at 9-0 but I doubt they would have hung with Syracuse. And to be honest BG was probably about the same size, enrollment wise, as Syracuse. The only NCAA titles I know BG has won are the ones by Wottle, Sink and the Hockey team. There well may be others.

Wasn't almost every team that has won a football championship a Named Champion via the AP or Coaches poll, and not by actually winning it in a head to head matchup until the BCS was created?
... thats what I thought.
