I saw a little bit of the Michigan-Notre Dame game. The TV anncrs made the point a few times that refs were really going to look for holding this year and call it a lot more. Does anyone know anything more about this? Is this a nation-wide emphasis or just the conference those officials were from? I can't believe anyone watched a few dozen college games last year and thought, "Mmmmm, pretty good game overall, what it needs though is more holding calls. People would really like college football even more if there were more holding calls."
Please enlighten.

UT-UC was awful- Obvious holds not called, marginal grabs away from the ball brought a flutter of yellow laundry. It got to where almost any big play was cause for fans to anxioulsy search the ground and then groan at the sight of the maize hanky laying in the offensive backfield.
