So ... ND WR Golden Tate caught the game winning TD pass vs MSU and did this ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg-76xzGABE
How did he not get suspended for that?? If a Miami receiver in the infamous 2006 FIU game gets suspended for taking a bow in the end zone after a touchdown, what should the punishment be for diving into the opposing band?? And if some band member would have yanked off Tate's helmet and clocked him with it, I honestly would call that justified to some degree. That would have been a well-deserved smack in the face.

Seriously, I think you are way out of line on this one. The band was about two yards out of bounds and he was running all out to make the catch in the back of the end zone. It actually looks to me like he jumped into the band to avoid running full bore right into someone, like he jumped to protect them. And he didn't celebrate or taunt anyone in the band. I don't see anything wrong whatsoever.
Keep the f'in band in the stands until the game is over and this isn't an issue anyway.

Wow. I saw him coming out of the band in one of the highlights, but I didn't see him full-out dive into the band. That's ridiculous. If it had just been momentum carrying him in, that's a different story, but he was going for style points from the French judge on that one.
Also, not to hijack the thread, but did anyone else see USC's linebacker showing off like he just won the BCS on a tackle just before losing to Washington? Check out 5:13 of this video:

I'm getting really tired of players jumping around like lunatics every time they make a tackle. Weatherspoon from Mizzou did it all game when we played them. Every time, I can't help but think, "Great work, all-star, you did the job you're getting a free education to do. Chill out and get back to the line of scrimmage."

I call those "Rodmans" from when dennis was still a nerd. He used to come in with the Pistons up thirty and get an offensive tip in and race down court waving one finger like he just hit a walk-off jumper.

Pick a level to start at...
The coaches could put an end to this kind of nonsense in a single season. You act like an ass and you are on the bench for the rest of this game and the next. Of course, parents, boosters, administrators, and fans would never sit still for it so what is a well-intentioned coach to do?

Golden Tate is an azzface. When ND is up, it's all sunshine and puppy dogs and he runs his mouth like nobody's business (and swan dives into the band). When they fall behind, he whines and pouts and acts like a 2-year-old. Of all the injuries ND suffered last week, it's a shame one of them wasn't his mouth.
Oh, as for the band, ND does that for every game (and I think for both bands). Don't know the genius that thought that one up, but they're rolling in it for whatever a prime ticket at ND Stadium goes for x 150 or so.

I guess some people just need to have something to complain about. Complete non-issue.

A swan-dive into the band is not a non-issue. That's absolutely ridiculous. If he runs into the band due to momentum, that's a non-issue.

Wonder if Golden's nickname is "Balls"?

Non-issue to me. The jump basically kills all his momentum. He could have lowered a shoulder and creamed someone. And on the jump, it looks like he turns his body a bit so he is less wide and can fall between band members. And he didn't do anything unsportsmanlike after he got up, like taunt them or show them the ball or anything. No issue with this for me.

I think I read where he actually thought he was jumping into Notre Dame's band until he was about 4 feet from face planting.

This is clearly what happened. Although Tate is an assface, this was more a case of him being a moron.

An assfaced moron? Who knew you'd have company!
