Greg Christopher did an interview with the Blade a little while ago and the topic came up about the possibility of an orange field for the field turf. He said that was briefly discussed but they decided it would be too hard for the eyes.

My take ... one of the things that makes Boise so unique is the blue field. That field is probably enough to sway some good talent their way instead of lower BCS teams like Iowa State, Washington, and Wazzou. Unique attributes like that stand out. I believe Eastern Michigan missed a golden opportunity when changing their mascot from the Hurons. If they would have gone with the Eastern Michigan Emus, I can't help but think that a lot of good talent would greatly consider them, just so they could be an awkward looking bird. Similarly, I believe an orange field would have helped us considerably in recruiting, giving us something so unique that players may consider wearing an orange uni on an orange field as opposed to heading to UT, Akron and such, or maybe even pull some talent away from Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan, and State.

However ... the other half of my take is that I believe Boise should retain exclusive privileges to non-green fields. They did it first and have thus created an icon. To create red, orange, black, and gold fields would reduce the appeal to the original, the icon, which I feel is very unfair to Boise State.

I thought the NCAA banned the use of unnaturally colored fields?

That red field looks hideous. Confirms for me we should never have an orange field even if it were allowed. Ugh.

Yeah, I DO love the orange endzones, though. :)

Now the end zones are a different story! I totally agree.

Not sure if the rumors are true, but I heard on the radio the other day on Dakich's daily show while he was down in Miami at the Super Bowl that Eastern Michigan was thinking about going to a WHITE TURF, with the sidelines, numbers, hashmarks being Green. Whatever was once whie will not be green, and everything green becomes white.

That's just a common rumor...there aren't any official NCAA rules regarding the color of a football field.
