Would you hire Tressell as head coach here

This should be some interesting conversation from the regulars here. I know there is an old school "We do things the right way" feeling but there is also a "I want to win at all costs" feeling as well.

Looking at it Tressell did not do anything too horrible but his career has certainly been shadowed by scandal despite his "I do it the right way" front.

If he took the job it would up our national image greatly, the quality of recruits that we got (atleast in terms of playing ability) would go up drastically and remember we have had our share of shady guys getting into actual criminal trouble lately.

The chances are that he would not come here anyway. He will likely ride out a couple years then take a another big job. However a hiring like him could take our program to another level.

We have a coach. We do things the right way. That's all I have to say about this.

Winning is nice but at what cost? I don't need my alma mater being known as a cheat.

Definitely not. MarkL sent me this link before and I would NEVER want him here just because of his track record:

Tressel's line of BS

Quite frankly, I'd rather have the 2-10 season like last year knowing our program is clean than having a perfect record knowing we cheated to get there.

That being said, I still hold that we have the right coach and this year will be a vast improvement from last year.

Would you want your alma mater being known? Because that would put us on the map.

You don't know what Tressel has or has not done...that story hasn't been told yet. If he's resigning on a major holiday...I have to think some serious s**t is about to hit the fan. He cheated at YSU and OSU...why in the f**k would we want this sack of crap within 100 miles of Wood County?

I can't tell if the post was made for real or in jest.

Thankfully the NCAA will issue a "show cause" and we won't have to worry about Jim Tressell ever coaching here.

He is isn't even suited to coach Paul Crewe and the caretaker.

For a good football team. So we don't go 2-10 in the MAC.

Fixed it for you. I don't call a winning team "good" if you cheated to get it. The point of a university is to foster learning and enable you to make good choices in the real world. Winning by cheating is teaching the exact opposite.

What does "show cause" mean? I figure he'll lay low for awhile then go and coach in the pros.

I feel like this was a very special episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Aire. A little too much idealism around here. A lot of the sentiment of "that could never happen here". That is the exact same thing that I hate about OSU fans down here. The self righteousness.

"Only the other guys cheat. That became obvious to me long ago. When your favorite school commits a violation of any kind, it's "an isolated incident" or "an unfair rule" or "not that big a deal." Either "everybody's doing it" or "at some places it's a lot worse." Your alma mater "may have made a mistake or two" or "may have bent the rules a little" or "is a victim of circumstance." Other schools cheat. Yours doesn't."

I watch football to watch football. Within a certain amount I don't care what they do. I dont want guys robbing or stealing but I don't expect my DL to be winning a nobel peace prize either. They are people.

I'm not saying violations DON'T happen here. There are so many rules in the book that it would be impossible to follow them all to the letter. What I don't want is a coach like that who signs a piece of paper saying he knows of no violations when there are clearly major violations occurring.
And it's clear that Tressel can't properly discipline his players. Yes we are all human and make mistakes, but it's clear over his career he has not instilled a true sense of responsibility in his players.
