Just curious, I am sure there is a legit reason but I dont get it.
They were the 8th best team in the Big ten per record.
I know why the Gator bowl would want them, but if I am confused why they were allowed to take them. I am sure it was addressed somewhere.
Wisconsin 7-2 BCS (1st Pick)
Michigan St.7-2 Outback (3rd Pick) v SEC Ga
Michigan 6-2 BCS WHICH IS A JOKE
Penn St. 6-2 Ticketcity v Con USA Houston
Nebraska 5-3 Capital One Bowl (2nd pick) v SEC SC Picked Nebraska over Michigan State and Penn State?
Iowa 4-4 Insight (Pick 4/5) v Big 12 Oke
Purdue 4-4 Little Ceasars v MAC W Michigan
Northwestern 3-5 Northwestern (Pick 6) v Big 12 Texas AnM
Ohio St. 3-5 Gator (Pick 4/5) v SEC Fla This is where i am confused. Dont the rules say that they have to take Penn St?
Minnesota 2-6
Illinois 2-6
Indiana 0-8
Pick Name Location Opposing Conference Opposing Pick
1 Rose Bowl Pasadena, California Pac-12 or BCS –
2 Capital One Bowl Orlando, Florida SEC 2
3 Outback Bowl Tampa, Florida SEC 3/4
4/5 Gator Bowl Jacksonville, Florida SEC 6
4/5 Insight Bowl Tempe, Arizona Big 12 4

Bowl selection procedures
Although the pick order usually corresponds to the conference standings, the bowls are not required to make their choices strictly according to the won-lost records; many factors influence bowl selections, including pre-season rankings, especially the turnout of the fans for past bowl games. Picks are made after BCS selections; the bowl with the #2 pick will have the first pick of the remaining teams in the conference.
The Capital One, Outback, and Gator Bowls can select any eligible team except a team that has two fewer wins or two more losses than another eligible team. The Insight, TicketCity, Texas and Little Caesar's Pizza Bowls have no such restrictions, However, the bowls cannot select a 6–6 team if a 7–5 or better team is not selected by a Big Ten-affiliated bowl.[54][55]

Re: How did OSU get to go to the Gator Bowl
Where are you seeing the part where they are required to take someone based off of certain win totals? I looked at the Gator Bowl page and all it said was they had the 4th pick after the BCS. The way I'm interpreting it is that as long as a team has 6 wins and is in the Big Ten it doesn't matter if they take the 6 win team even if there is a 10 win team because there are multiple Big Ten bowl affiliations. When it comes to taking the 7-5 before a 6-6 that only applies to taking an at-large team that does not have a conference tie-in to that bowl. In other words it wouldn't matter if the MAC had 5 teams with records of 8-4 if all of the bowls have enough conference tie-in teams available 2 of the MAC teams would be staying home instead of a 6-6 team. Make sense?

It was on Wikipedia so I am not sure what that means.

Looks like those rules apply just for the first couple games.

Cuz O$U will still sell a ton of tickets. IMO, it is a complete joke two 6-6 teams that were 3-5 in their conferences get to play on Jan 2. That being said, GO GATORS!!! Chomp Chomp...

Because they could put Florida and Zero State in the same stadium, giving them three hours to self-pleasure over the Urban Meyer hire.
