Re: Akron considering a new name.
For kicks, I would say "An Ohio State University."
But I could see them going towards something like Ohio Tech or Ohio A&M.
I also saw something recently that said Cleveland State was looking to shed the word "State" from its name and go with the University of Cleveland. I actually wish Bowling Green would do this as well. Similar to how Troy State became Troy and Memphis State became Memphis. I honestly can't stand when you see us mentioned as Bowling Green State. No one calls us that and we don't represent ourselves as that. Go back to Bowling Green University, like the BGU throw back jerseys when we ruled the MAC. I don't like the word State used unless it's in conjunction with the name of a state (ex. Ohio State, Michigan State, Florida State, etc).

With the lack of funding coming from Columbus we should drop "State" from our name.

Works for me! I like Bowling Green University. The word "State" just cheapens it.It's the Journey... wrote:With the lack of funding coming from Columbus we should drop "State" from our name.

Wait..if we change to BGU, the UT "people" will have to come up with something other than BGSU (cks). I don't think they're up to the task mentally...
I'm all in on the change to BGU...f**k Ohio, the State only claims OSU, why should we claim them?

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

They haven't come up with anything new in 50 years so I would have to agree.Flipper wrote:Wait..if we change to BGU, the UT "people" will have to come up with something other than BGSU (cks). I don't think they're up to the task mentally...

Let the name "Ohio Tech" start creeping in for Akron's new name....
