A lovable loser playing to win
I know they are East Coast and I know they (only) play in the Big East, but Rutgers should be one of the feel-good stories of this football season.
They haven't had a winning record since 1995 and haven't been to a bowl since 1974. Right now they are 4-2 and would have been 5-1 if it weren't for a last meltdown in the season opener at Illinois.
Looks like the Scarlet Knights will be headed to a bowl this year and I, for one, think that's pretty cool. I also think it should give MAC fans something to think about in regard to Buffalo and, soon, Temple. If Rutgers can do it, those two can do it, too.

Why would Rutgers getting to a bowl prove that there are too many bowl games? If they do, good for them! They haven't been to a bowl since 1979, and they are playing their butts off right now.BGSUVA wrote:Well Temple will be playing in the MAC...not the big east...I hope Rutgers doesnt go bowling...if they do, then that shows there are way too many bowls games...plus listening to their fans, they are better than Miami (the Real Miami, not the Ohio one)...
Does the fact that BG has gone to two bowl games over past two years prove that there are too many bowls, too?
Go Rutgers.

I believe that if you check you'll find out that Miami University has been around quite a bit longer than the one in Fla. Therefore the one in Fla. is the imposter.

I agree with BO, everyone prolly said same thing when BG started going to bowl games. bowl games are a nice reward for teams like rutgers and like us 3 years agoBleeding Orange wrote:Why would Rutgers getting to a bowl prove that there are too many bowl games? Um, I'm gonna chime in... That's awesome what Rutgers is doing. But, Miami, Florida was founded/named by the owners of the railroad that ran down the east coast of Florida. Those owners were from Dayton, Ohio. (Hence, DAYTONa Beach.) I believe it was named for the Indian tribe, and one of the owner's alma mater.

Well who is the other BGSU? What I'm saying is Miami FL > Miami OH, therefore Miami FL = The Real Miami...besides, how many MNC's has Miami OH won? how many top 5 finishes?kdog27 wrote:ignoranceBGSUVA wrote: better than Miami (the Real Miami, not the Ohio one)...
By this logic BGSU probably isn't real either than right?

If that is your view of the college football world, you are welcome to find the door. Your type of attitude is the reason college football is quickly going the corrupted and uninteresting way of professional sports. The money and politics involved with rankings and championships have made people like you forget that all universities that participate in intercollegiate football are doing the exact same thing, and that is providing a free education to students who also happen to be athletes. Students who might not otherwise be able to afford an education. Yes, college football is a very visible aspect of academia, but it is in reality only a very small part of it.BGSUVA wrote:Well who is the other BGSU? If you truly think that one university is greater than another based on the number of NC's and top 5 finishes their football team possesses, you obviously have a lot to learn about logic and reality. College football is nothing more than healthy competition between students that you and I voyeristically observe on fall Saturdays. Period. There is no such thing as a "real" Miami. They are both accomplishing the same goal, no matter how the politics and economy of college football have impacted the popular (and wrong) perception of either school.
You'll not win any friends around here with this attitude, but something tells me that you really don't care. Using your logic it makes no sense that you would even waste your time following a football program like Bowling Green. After all, we're just kidding ourselves year in and year out because we have never finished in the top 5.

Dear friend from Virginia. As my misguided friends who went to Miami continue to tell me.....BGSUVA wrote:Well Temple will be playing in the MAC...not the big east...I hope Rutgers doesnt go bowling...if they do, then that shows there are way too many bowls games...plus listening to their fans, they are better than Miami (the Real Miami, not the Ohio one)...
They feel they ARE the real Miami. If you are going to become a Northener- you gotta get these things downMiami was a University before Florida was a state.
ROLL ALONG!
Then why do they insist to include that (OH) at the end?always a falcon wrote: They feel they ARE the real Miami. If you are going to become a Northener- you gotta get these things down
