Attendance problems abroad!

Post by TG1996 »

Middle Tennessee State's coach, Andy McCollum got fired, for among other reasons, poor attendance. Needless to say, Andy fired back:

" ... I've been blamed for attendance. I think if you're going
to do anything at Middle Tennessee, you need to get somebody to
count how these other people count them," McCollum said. "I've
been to all these stadiums, and I hear the criticism of our fan
base. Middle Tennessee's got a better fan base than any stadium
I've been in. We just ain't got people who count them right or
count them the way other people count them.

"When I walked in last week (at Troy) and I see 5,000 people
there, then I hear 17,000 ... When I walk into Florida Atlantic and
see 1,200, and then I hear 12,000 ... " McCollum said. "Then to
put that on the players, coaches and everything else ... It's a
bunch of crap."

(from an AP wire story)
"I don't believe I can name a coach, anywhere, anytime, anyhow, who did it better than Doyt Perry."

To be fair, should the hilljacks in middle Tennessee really be expected to know how to count?

In his defense, how can you lay attendance problems on the coach? Yes, winning usually equals better attendance, but why not just say he didn't win enough an leave it at that?

5,000. After the flood.

Before the flood, I was told that there were many students that were on their way, and there and just didn't come back after the delay.

I think if they hadn't postponed, the crowd would have been around 17-18,000.

Doubtfull at best that those were the real numbers. at 6:30ish when we entered there may have been 5,000 who walked in when they were delaying the game. There weren't that many people walking in. When they restarted there might have been 2,000 after the half, Miami's side was for the most part empty. If it hadn't been delayed, maybe a total crowd of 12000.

58 on the BG side, 7 on the Miami side (that's how many I counted on my TV, maybe '87 counted more......)
