Burglary at the Hawk House

How many of you had $3,000 laying around your apartment while you were in college?
In an unrelated matter, Hawk and many other college athletes are on the road all week attending various award ceremonies. Hawk was in Houston today at a children's hospital and has awards shows through Sunday. 1. Don't these players (not just Hawk or other Buckeyes) have class or are they just allowed to come and go as they please? 2. Who pays for their travel? I am assuming that sponsorship money for the awards shows cover travel, but I am not sure.

Crap, I don't have 3000 dollars in my checkings and savings accounts combined let alone cash now, 4years out of college. I think OSU may already be a break too. It seems like those people are never in school. In terms of who covers it, I guess sponoship, but wouldn't that count as paying the athletes or is it considered apart of their award to get there and recieve it.

My friend's little sis goes to OSU, and they are in fact on break now.
What blows me away here is the "intelligence factor." It is one thing for parents to keep their kids "funded" while they are in school, but all in cash? That pretty shady in my opinion. Shadiness aside, unless Hawk and Mangold have something against banks, in this day in age of debit cards and ATM's, to have that kind of money laying around a college house is proof of a low IQ.

It's finals week this week. So, either Hawk lucked out by having all his finals scheduled on Monday and Tuesday or he got to take them early to go on his vacation.

Honestly though who would have the balls to break into that house and steal from them? Had to be someone close to the two to know their schedule. And it's a little bit suspicious that they have that much money just sitting around.
I live in Columbus and on the radio fans were saying why did they even report it? They said that they will be in the NFL soon enough and will be making millions of dollars and that this just makes the University look bad.

Well this sure smells fowl. This whole thing could be looked at several ways and almost all of the seem shady.
1) They are listing WAY more than they actually had in the house
2) These guys are getting paid under the table
3) A parent is idiotic enough to give their kid 3 grand to mess around with. This is also shady.

I sold my motorcycle in college and had 5K cash lying around..people are really jumping to conclusions here...rightfully so however, seeing other previous OSU sistuations...but it's still possible to have that $$ arorund..who knows..maybe he was going to BUY something and the seller only accepted cash..who knows??

IMO, The most likely reasons that he would have that kind of cash laying around are for the most part related to some kind of illegal activity/illegal conduct. You use cash so it can't be traced.
Another suspicious item about the burgulary that I don't think has been mentioned. They say it happened like the evening/night of Nov 22, yet it was not reported to police until like Nov 28 or something. If someone stole your Xbox, $3,000 cash, and whatever else, wouldn't you call the cops right away? Unless you have something you need to coverup first.

A number of college athletes, including several football players at the University of Iowa and other Top 25 schools, are living in apartments set aside for the poorest Americans.
The investigation found some of the most successful programs in college athletics have players living in subsidized housing, including Virginia Tech, which has 19 players living in Cambridge Square apartments, a federally-subsidized Section 8 complex in Blacksburg paid for by the government to house needy people.
Section 8 refers to federal code that includes subsidized housing.
As first brought to light by the Des Moines Register, dozens of full-scholarship Hawkeyes players, who received money for housing, paid little or no rent to live in the housing. Among them was offensive lineman Brian Ferentz, the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, who was found to be living in an apartment subsidized by taxpayers.
Federal regulators have since tightened requirements for student athletes, many of whom receive a housing stipend intended to cover room and board expenses as part of their full scholarships. The stipends are based on what it would cost to live on campus.
But Outside the Lines, led by reporter John Barr, found students at Nebraska living in Section 8 housing as well.

I hate to semi-defend OSU, but I think the gap in reporting it might have had something to do with TG break at the school. Maybe someone who knows OSU's schedule could help out.
Having said that, and I'm genuinely asking this, why does it seem outrageous to you that two college-aged kids about to make a ton of money in the NFL at a program that has had a few minor incidents in the recent past would be involved in something illegal? I'm not trying to flame, I'm actually curious, regardless of what a parent says (Parents are usually not the most reliable source of information when it comes to their children.)
