My family in PA has always done the pork and kraut thing too. I loathe sauerkraut, but my new years tradition is I always make homemade sausage gravy and biscuits for "breakfast" on New Year's "Morning". I had to learn to make it just like my Mom before I moved away so I could continue the tradition. It's one of my specialties.
My parents always did the pork roast & sauerkraut thing as well. I like Sauerkraut in small doses, but I don't care for this meal enough to carry on the tradition now that I'm gone from my parents' house.
Sausage Gravy does rock. My dad taught me how to make it years ago. I usually cheat and use country gravy packets instead of flour though It makes it a little richer since I usually only have 1% milk on hand.
Back to holiday traditions, I bought the meat for my family's Christmas Eve dinner (which will be held on the 26th due to mom's work schedule) yesterday. I got some 7-8 oz. Lobster tails, and picked up a beef loin. Good stuff.
I actually hate sauerkraut but my mom and nana always told me that I had to eat at least one strand. So, that's what I do! I pick out one strand, bury it in mashed potatoes and eat it quickly. The tradition doesn't state that you have to eat a full helping to reap the benefits

My mother's side is PA Dutch as well. Roasted pork loin, a little kraut (which I LOVE) and spaetzel (a German noodle/dumpling sort of thing.)
New Years morning I always make Eggs Benedict. I don't know why, I just did it one year and it stuck. This year, instead of muffins, I may use a spicey crab cake as the base for the Benedict.

We have taken that "pork and kraut" tradition and had brats with kraut for lunch on New Years Day for the past five years or so. Easy to do, and damn tasty!

Xmas eve we used to do a potluck and rotated my dad's side's houses. As the kids all got older, we opted for ordering pizza (myles or pagliais).
Xmas morning streusel swirl (sp?) cake. Xmas day with my mom's side was usually ham (BLECH) or turkey. I remember shrimp cocktail a few times. And then after eating and presents we have a Euchre tournament.
