Hidden Gems

There's always that one place you always have to stop for when you're traveling to get that great meal.

For me, it's the Monte Cristo sandwich at Dianna's Diner in Sandusky, Ohio. Anybody got any other places that have hidden gems?

Down on 71 there is a joint right at the exit for Ashland called "Grampa's Cheese Barn." The best freaking chocolate malts you will have.

Chagrin Falls has Dave's Cosmic Subs. SWEET! They also have a place in Mentor now.

Dunn Brothers Coffee in Minnesota. Best coffee I have ever had because they actually roast it in house. I'm still tempted to buy a franchise and bring it to Ohio.

I'll have to think of more, but this is going to be a GREAT thread.

That place is AWESOME!

On Rt 20, in Conneaut, OH, just before the PA state line, there is a little old-school outdoor diner called White Turkey drive-in. Best root beer float or turkey sandwich you've ever had.

The Super Ed from that place is also my second favorite burger in the world. Number 1 is from Armadillo's sports bar in Toronto. Freakin' amazing burger.

I like the G&R in Waldo for a fried bologna sandwich and curly fries.

Also the Der Dutchman in Plain City and Waynesville. If you go to Plain City and Der Dutchman is too crowded, then head just a little further south on RT. 42 to the Dutch Kitchen. It's Der Dutchman II - same food, same buffet. Same great food!

Love a hamburger (or two) from Wilson's in Findlay.

Found the Edgewood Inn in Berea (less than a mile away from the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds out the back gate). Great food and nice prices. Looks like little blue house, but very good food.

Slyman's on St. Clair in Cleveland. Only open for breakfast & lunch on weekdays, but worth going out of your way for.

Best Corned beef ever...big too :)

I remember that well. I used to work at my Dad's machine shop downtown; when I was on deliveries, every so often we'd stop at Slyman's for lunch. Unbelievable!

In Troy, Ohio, K's Hamburger Shop is a great stop if you are in the area. Their Hamburgers and Milk Shakes are amazing. I highly suggest it if you happen to be driving through. Just get off on the main drag and go into town until you get to the Troy Police Station. It's right across the street from there!!
