Another quick father & son dinner recipe

Post by 1987alum »

Here's another one that Noah & I serve up in a jiffy

We usually serve this one over egg noodles.

Four boneless pork chops
1 big tub of hummus (I prefer Tribe's hummus with 40 spices, but we've used other varieties)
Bourbon
Olive oil
Spices - whatever you like to use to rub down pork
Sauteed onions

Mix spices (typically, I use cumin, corriander and garlic powder) with olive oil to form a a nice paste, then slather the chops with that paste. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 425 or so.

Mix hummus with bourbon and a little bit of water. Add it slowly, because you don't want this to get too watery. Set aside.

Heat up a large, non-stick skillet and brown the chops well on both sides. Place the chops in a small casserole dish (I like them to fit pretty snugly). Cover the chops with the sauteed onions, then pour the hummus mixture over the the chops.

Place it in the oven for about 20 or 25 minutes.

Plating: Simple. Put the noodles down, put the chops on top, then cover with some of the extra sauce.

Enjoy!

That's a lock. I'm off to Tesco (Wallmart's UK competitor), for some 'chops.

Doesn't Wal-Mart own Asda now?

Ever shop at a Norco? They had one in Aberdeen, it was the first real SUPER-market I was exposed to until I moved stateside.

And this recipe sounds yummy.

Yes, 10 points for that, and Hello again, Dayon. Asda is all the better for being owned by Wallmart now, and although the stores still sport the Asda livery (advertising logo: It "Asda be Asda!"), the "Wallmart" brand is starting to creep into the larger locations.

Haven't seen a Norco south of the border in Sassenach land. The biggest competitor, Tesco (logo "every little helps..") is giving Wallmart a pretty good run for its money. Wallmart has just referred Tesco to the Monopolies Commission (MC), because Tesco owns all the land in the UK that anyone would want to build a grocery store on, and Walmart's having hassle getting into its target markets. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the MC breaks them both up, because Tesco & Asda have got this sector completely stitched up.

Apart from that, the other supermarkets worth their salt are Sainsbury's (I like Sainsbury's), Morrisons, and Marks & Spencer (not what they used to be). The Germans have their Lidl grocery stores here, which are pretty good for continental foods that are otherwise extortionately priced at the likes of Asda, Tesco, etc.
