What's your favorite??

Mine is a Sidecar. The best I've ever had was made by "Darla" at Ernesto's on Ohio Rt. 51 between Elmore and Genoa. I've gotten pretty good at mixing them myself now though.

Also known as the "American Margarita" it's delicious!! My perfect Sidecar is

2 parts GOOD brandy
1 part Cointreau
.5 parts fresh squeezed lime juice

Shake over ice and serve straight up in a sugar-rimmed rocks glass.

Second best mixed drink ever was a cucumber margarita I had in a sushi bar in Portland. We were there at Madama Butterfly's last day of operation and they were trying to get rid of their inventory of booze, so it was buy one get one... and the cucumber margie was SO amazingly good!!

Mashed cukes, simple syrup, Patron tequila. Served up in a salted martini glass. Oh my God.... I got the recipe from the bartender, but have not tried to re-create it myself. I'm pretty sure I'm missing SOMETHING in this description... not sure if there was triple sec or not... *sigh*... Portland.....

Side Car

Ingredients:
2 cl (0.7oz) Cointreau®
1 cl (0.35oz) lemon juice
4 cl (1.4oz) Remy Martin cognac

Recipe:
Mix ingredients in a shaker with ice.
No need to garnish

Scotch
Ice


Purists will omit the ice, but I like it cold.

During the Fall, I love a Caramel Apple.

Just take some quality (read: not Captain Morgan) rum and some apple cider, and you got a great drink that goes down smoooooth.

I'm a big Jack and Coke guy too.

I'm not sure of the proportions exactly, because I've only ever heard of this while I was in Jamaica, but it quickly became my second favorite drink down there (behind the ever-trusty Pina Colada or Red Stripe). I had the bartenders show me a couple of times, but a was a wee bit too blitzed to fully remember details.

Jamaican Smile (play with the proportions)

In a shaker, start with about 1/3 Jamaican dark rum (Appleton's is groovy)

Add in some rum cream and Amaretto

Add small amount strawberry syrup (Daquiri mix works here too)

fill remainder of shaker with Pina Colada mix (shouldn't be more than 1/4 glass). Shake that baby with some ice shards and you're in business.


Deeeeelicious. I probably had about 3 of these with every extended pool/ocean visit. Open bars rule.

I knew you were a great mind. Best ginger ale to have with bourbon is Ale-8-one. You get the sensation that its was created to mix with bourbon. I have also found that bourbon and blackberry tea makes a great drink when I'm congested and not feeling well.

Nothing like a good drink thread to get me interested! I will have to try your Sidecar. It's Friday so you'd think I'd be able to have two or four of these myself tonight. But NO. I have a stinking deposition to take tomorrow morning.

Why not DURING the deposition? They're horribly boring. Spice it up a bit.

I like Singl Malt straight, but we're talking mixed drinks.

Martini. There are only two types of martini: Martini and Vodka Martini. That's it.

Fill shaker with ice. Pour one to two jiggers of Vermouth into shaker. Stir. Appropriate amount of Vermout with stick to the ice. Pour out remaining Vermouth. Add Vodka (Ciroc or Chopin) or Gin (Tanqueray) to shaker and stir/shake.

Pour into martini glass and add three olives (one to start, one for the middle, and one when the drink is finished). Olives may be stuffed with a rich type of cheese (Maytag).

I LOVE Ale-8-one. I have a metal sign for the product that I scored during my time in Lexington. I haven't had it in a long time, but if memory serves, it would be fantastic with bourbon!

Sounds like some ale-8-one and bourbon need to make their way up to BG this fall.

Well, mint julep comes close, but for me it has to be a strawberry daiquiri, time permitting. And for those occasions when a vodka gimlet is just too refined for the company on hand, there can be only one.....

Here in the states we add a bit of Baileys to the Jamesons, and call it an Irish Car Bomb.

Mmm, I think I could defuse one or two of those...
