Variation of a theme: GRILLED CHEESE!

I have an idea. Let's take a staple food and share our variations of the food.
I love playing with grilled cheese. Just the other day, I made it with cheddar cheese with sweet pepper mustard relish. It was quite tasty.

Also, the key to GREAT grilled cheese sammiches is "cast iron" and artisinal breads (no Wimpy Wonder White) Discuss.

RUIT:

Great idea! I love tinkering with "tried & true" staples.

For grilled cheese, a simple twist is seedless rye, extra sharp cheddar and thick-cut bacon. Oh, baby.

I also like added sweet peppers to that and/or using a really crusty sourdough.

A big thick hamburger (already grilled of course), with pepperjack cheese and sauteed onions and peppers on a flattened kaiser roll.

Need I say it?? Tony Packo's Pickles!!

Generally prefer a mix of Colby and Muenster cheeses w/ the thin-sliced variety of the pickles wedged in between. And prefer it on a nice hearty rye or pumpernickel bread.

How's this for radical: Two slices of whole wheat bread with 3 slices of cheese between them, cooked to a nice golden hue with the cheese perfectly melted.

Any other ingredients (aside from different bread and cheese variations) and its not a grilled cheese samich.

For example, throw ham in and it's a "grilled ham and cheese". I'm not saying that the addition of extra ingredients isn't a good idea, mind you, but I do so enjoy the simplicity (not to mention taste) of a well cooked grilled cheese samich which goes quite well with a tall glass of milk and the occasional bowl of tomato soup!

Any grilled cheese that is made without Wonder bread and Velveeta is not worthy of the name. Oh, and if my mom didn't make it then its not really grilled cheese, is it?

Whoops! It's actually spelled artisanal. Gads.

Anyway, artisanal foods are what make good food great. traditional artisanal foods also binds us as a culture and enables the interaction of cultures on a non-political level. There is beauty in food and that is what I love most about it.

My dream company is to offer a West Side Market meets Indoor mall. butcher, creamery, baker, organic produce, fish monger, etc. I would also have grocers specializing in specific regions and/or cultures. It would be foodie heaven!\

Back to the bread, you have to have a great crusty bread for a truly out-of-this-world grilled cheese experience. :-D

You DID go to Miami. And I don't want to eat any food that ends in anal-that may bind up your culture but not mine. ;-)

I'm at the Chug in Muncie, IN with a BSU friend. I'm drunk when a drunker girl comes up to me and says:

"What do you call bread and cheese and you butter the bread and like put it in a frying pan?"

"Uh, a grilled cheese sandwich?"

"No dammit! It's a cheese toasty, a f***ing cheese toasty!"

None of her friends had heard of a cheese toasty either.

I'm lame. I like rye bread, one slice of pepper jack, one slice of swiss and one slice of ham or bologna.

I have at least one friend who insists it's "toasted cheese"
His reason: "Did you actually grill it?"
I don't give a damn what it's called. All I know is it's delicious.
