How about a thread to share your favorite beers and other libations to drink outside The Doyt on gameday!


Early morning tailgates (noon kickoffs, pre-noon tailgating): I go with Guinness for its coffee like goodness. A runner up would be mimosas.

Warm afternoon tailgates I enjoy the ice cold Molson Canadian. Runner up would be Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

Below freezing bevie to pick you up when the winds are wipping accross the plains of BG- Hennessy! Smooth and warming, this brown cognac compliments my orange shot glasses quite nicely.


So what will you be having?

I think it is odd we can't get it in Ohio but it is probably the most popular beer here in South Kakalaki.

Can't get it here in KY either. Probably one of my most favorite beers.

I can't decide which is the best part of moving to Pittsburgh. Being able to watch the Steelers every week (including preseason) for FREE....or 15-dollar cases of 24 beautiful Yuengling bottles right around the corner at my distrubutor.

There's also the nice little perk of almost every bar in town having $1.00 - $1.50 Yuengling drafts.

I've found that Yuengling works for almost every occasion. It's awesome at tailgates and outdoor-type parties, because it keeps me warm, yet it also goes very well with a large variety of foods, especially brats.

Something I'd like to try this year for some cold tailgates, is an Apple Crisp drink:

1 1/2 gal apple cider
1/2 gal apple juice
2 cups sugar
9 cinnamon sticks

Add all ingredients together in a large pot and simmer for about 2-3 hours. Let it cool to room temperature then add a bottle of Everclear. I would probably try slowly re-heating the concoction after adding the EC for a warmer drink. At my family's July 4th BBQ a family friend made some and it was delicious, but very potent.

I'm also a big fan of Caramel Apple's which is just rum and apple cider. Again, warmed up is great. One very dumb night after a hockey game I finished off a whole bottle of Sailor Jerry by making these drinks all night. Needless to say, blacked out after 1am and didn't wake up until 5pm the next day.

I was about to call you a pu**y until I read the Everclear part. Then I realized that you're just stupid.

I used to be a fan of Labbat's on game days, but I'm thinking about switching things up this year. That should make for an interesting season, and some colorful hangovers, for sure.

The part about finishing off a bottle of 90 proof rum should have told you that. I'm just happy to have such a high tolerance I can do EC without dying.

My tailgate beverage of choice is always beer, but the style varies. I usually take kegs of my homebrew to the tailgates. My favorites are Pale Ales, but I also like a good Brown Ale or Stout. For commercial beers, I love me some Nosferatu (thanks BO!). The Commodore Perry IPA from GL is also pretty stellar. Towards Christmas time you can get a great "Winter Warmer" called Hibernation Ale from Great Divide brewing in Colorado.

Once the UT game comes around I've also been known to purchase the Sam Adams holiday pack and enjoy some of that as well. It's a good mix of holiday style winter beers, and also has some of their standard offerings as well.

Fall is the best season for beer drinking really. Once it starts to cool off the heavy beers that are full of flavor really start to taste great again.

Hey, if you're really, really good this season, you may find some Nosferatu awaiting you at a tailgate again.

And I totally agree about the Sam Adams holiday pack. It is nearly impossible to beat the S.A. Scotch Ale. The Brown Ale, as well, is tasty.

If I can get my hands on a couple of cases this year, I think my tailgating beer of choice will definitely be Shipyard's Pumpkinhead. That is, hands down, the absolute best fall seasonal I have ever encountered. Blue Moon's Pumpkin Ale is alright, but I've not found a pumpkin ale that even comes close to Pumpkinhead.

After being hounded by the Carlsberg girls at the last Cisco Convention in Copenhagen, there can be only one. Carlsberg Export, guys. I'm sure the straps on the concession trays the girls use are far too short. Its almost impossible to grab a complmentary beer without grabbing.. never mind. Nobody would understand.

I'm with hammb, for the most part. Beer is always a winner. But chilly evenings certainly make bourbon a good option.
