Lookin' good man! I can honestly say I don't think I've EVER had a pumpkin pie made from scratch.

How did the crust turn out? That's the hardest part of pie making, IMO. Of course I've only made a few pies in my life. Every summer I'll make a strawberry pie from scratch as soon as I get some fresh berries...sooo good.

I've never really LIKED pie crust... so I'm not a good judge.. but this was really flaky and crumbly... I pre-baked it for a few minutes before putting the filling in and finalizing the bake.

All-in-all... the whole package was delish! I think the whipped cream was my favorite part. The pie filling recipe will be tweaked next time... little too much cinnamon, not enough ground clove for my tastes.

I got the tips from http://www.pumpkinpatchesandmore.org/

Might I suggest about 2oz of bourbon for the pie filling. We have tried it a couple of times here (My boss absolutely loves pumpkin pie, as a lab we probably eat about 6 pies or more a year). Bourbon blends very well with the spices used in pumpkin pie.

Sounds good G!

How can anyone NOT like pie crust? It's flour & fat...(Per Alton Brown's suggestion I use a combo of Lard & Butter).

For some reason, I HATE baking. I love to cook, but baking pisses me off.

I also don't really dig on pumpkin pie. I'm a cherry man. But you're right, the whip cream is ALWAYS the best part.

I like eating pie. =P~

"That's pie country. They do a lot of baking up there."
"They sell them by the side of the road. Blueberry blackberry."
"Blackberry boysenberry."
"Boysenberry huckleberry."
"Huckleberry raspberry."
"Raspberry strawberry."
"Strawberry cranberry."
"Peach."

Me too. I bake one strawberry pie a year and that's the extent of it.

I'll make bread in the bread machine, but I don't think that really counts does it?

I think the reason is because baking is an exact science. Most recipes must be followed to perfection or they won't turn out right. Cooking is more art, just throw stuff together and see how it tastes. Most people that cook, but don't bake, are the types that don't follow recipes much.

That's probably it. Baking's too tedious for me. A recipe to me is a guideline. I have never followed a recipe perfectly in my life except for when my mom made me help her bake Christmas cookies when I was a kid. Excruciating.

I've never had homemade pumpkin pie though. Maybe I'd like that better than the shortcut stuff my family always has.

My dog ate the remaining 3/4 of the pie yesterday while we were away. NOT HAPPY about that....

I think I'll bake another one Saturday during the UofM game.

LMAO... I might just bring a piece. I like the idea of the bourbon in the mix... do you want whipped cream too?

Will your homemade whipped cream stay set all the way till AA? I'm thinking it would start to turn runny. The pie alone is fine :)
