Pablano!

Used them for the first time in roasted corn relish and, I have to say, I loved them! I was skeptical, because I'm not a fan of the texture of a green bell pepper (and they are, in that respect, similar). But I roasted the pablanos for the relish and they were an awesome addition.

I have a few more recipes to try out with them before the grilling season comes to a close!

Poblanos rock.

One restaurant here in Toledo that has sadly gone under used to make battered & fried poblano pepper rings. Way better than onion rings, for sure!

Where was that at Brian? I recently tried to go up to El Rodeo on Monroe Street, only to find it was no more. :-( They had killer fajitas with fresh jalapeno's grilled up with the onions and bells! MMMMMmmmmMMMMM!

Poblano's are OK, not my favorite pepper, but for rellenos they're quite good.

G:

They worked well for this dish, especially since my in-laws were dining with us. They have a limited appetite for heat, so the pablanos worked well in that regard.

I'm interested in trying rellenos now that I've tried a pablano!

They had them at Fat Freddy's Sticky-Q, which was where the Jed's is now on Reynolds (the old Chi-Chi's). They may have had them at Mr. Beefy's as well, but I'm not sure. Both places were owned by the same people, but apparently they had some legal issues and all of their restaurants shut down. It's a shame, because they were really good restaurants.

Yeah man...they were good eats, even if the names are a little strange. They had pretty good smoked BBQ (they won the riboff I think at least once or twice). They also did a lot of food that they prepared themselves. Their chicken chunks were hand breaded, not frozen like BWW. They batter dipped their own onion rings & these poblanos as well.

I notice that sort of stuff. It is not difficult or time consuming to make Onion Rings fresh, yet most restaurants don't care and buy them pre-frozen. Fat Freddy's & Mr. Beefy's had good food that was prepared fresh. Unfortunately, they also had other issues...from what I've heard mostly with drugs and tax evasion...

hammb: agreed ... that's one thing I notice when I watch "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" on Food Network. The places often do pretty simple things, but you can tell it's those things that make a difference.

On the subject of names ... I laugh, because we used to have a little restaurant nearby named Chubby Chicken. I suggested to my wife that we stop there for lunch one day, and she said, "I do NOT need to be eating at a place called CHUBBY chicken."

A short lived (deservedly) place in downtown Toledo took the names of the owners, Faye and Tina and combined them to create the restaraunt's name. Fati's. I'd like to think the implications didn't occure to them but on the other hand I'd like to hope they did.
