But, not in Ohio. Under ORC 4301.22 establishments may not give away any alcohol.
How sad is it when you can't sell a product so you give it away?

I've been given free beer before...but it was by the Miller High Life guy...During the 2007 NBA Finals, we were watching at a bar and he showed up with free high life for everyone. Has the rule changed since then or was this bar in violation of said rule?

I think that he actually "bought" you a beer under the rules.
Re: Budweiser Giving Beer Away
I've gotten free beers before as well. Budweiser at that. I remember at Downtown on a Thursday night, probably '02 or '03. They made a big deal because the Bud guy came in with Budweiser's that had a born on date of that day. They had a portable cooler set up and were giving away free bud's on ice.

Bars and bar employees can't give away alcohol. Distributors and marketing reps who "purchase" beer from the bar can give it away. As someone who used to work in the bar that kind of gray area is annoying as hell.

Yeah - I found this one out about 2 months ago while in Indiana - if you're under 21, you can't even be in a bar. One of the guys with us asked for a water because he wasn't 21 and the lady asked for his ID. We thought she was joking so he said, "I just want a glass of water, please."VDub26Falcon wrote:Does Indiana have crazy beer laws I don't know about?
"I don't care, I need to see your ID anyway."
"Well, I'm not 21."
"Then you need to leave."
"I can't even be in here if I'm not 21?"
"Nope. Good-bye."

Can't buy alcohol on Sunday or holidays.
Can't buy alcohol until the polls close on Election Day (even if you're from out of state).
Can't buy cold beer at a grocery store.
Can't buy ANY beer at a gas station.
...and that's just off the top of my head.
Yet at least as of a few years ago, passengers in a car could legally have open containers and you can buy the hard stuff at the grocery store or many CVS/Walgreen's. Don't remember that being the case in Ohio.
Folks around here are fascinated by the idea of a drive-thru liquor store.

Yeah Indiana has some goofy laws, but if you want real messed up alcohol laws you have to venture to Pennsylvania.TG1996 wrote:Can't buy alcohol on Sunday or holidays.

Actually, I remember some of that from the Pitt game. Looking for a 12 of Yeungling to bring home turned into a goose chase. Although in hindsight, we probably should have just bought the palette that was offered at the beer store.hammb wrote:Yeah Indiana has some goofy laws, but if you want real messed up alcohol laws you have to venture to Pennsylvania.

Pretty sure you can only buy beer by the case in Pennsylvania, and it has to be done at a distributorship. Or maybe you can buy it in less than a case, but in smaller quantities you have to go to a bar and get it to go?TG1996 wrote:Actually, I remember some of that from the Pitt game. I don't remember it's been a couple years since I've been there, but I know their alcohol laws are really stupid.
Maybe J4H or one of the other Pennsylvanians could chime in.
Re: Budweiser Giving Beer Away
Yeah, it was something like that. Couldn't find it at any grocery stores, found a beer store, but they just had cases. Since we were traveling, we were limited for space, so had to go to to a pizza place/bar to buy a couple 12's. Very Indiana-esque.hammb wrote: Pretty sure you can only buy beer by the case in Pennsylvania, and it has to be done at a distributorship.
