Wow..per Rivals Maynard has a max squat of 610lbs? That's some serious lower body strength for an 18 year old kid.

I think all threads concerning recruiting should use the term "Requitting" or "requits" from here on out...

Watterson's Maynard changes from Ball State to BG

Watterson High School senior nose guard Hunter Maynard recently switched his verbal commitment in football from Ball State to Bowling Green, according to Eagles coach Dan Bjelac.

Maynard, a 6-foot-2, 290-pounder who also had offers from Central Florida and Western Michigan, made first-team all-district and second-team all-state in Division III last fall.

After finishing with 46 tackles and 5.5 sacks while helping the Eagles win the state title, Maynard will join a Falcons team that finished 2-10 last season.

According to Bjelac, Maynard reconsidered his original verbal commitment to Ball State after coach Stan Parrish was fired last November. Pete Lembo since has taken over at Ball State, which went 12-2 in 2008 under current Michigan coach Brady Hoke, but followed with seasons of 2-10 and 4-8.

This kid is the real deal. Three yr starter that led the team in sacks each season. Block eater and great pressure . Explodes off the ball and has violent hands. Should be a player that can come in and possibly get action as a freshman.

His power is off the charts for his age. Square 625 and deadlifts 515. He plays fast and physical. MLB playing behind him has over 130 tackles each yr. He ran a 5.2 laser timed 40 at NL combine at 300 Lbs. And a 5.0 flat at Cincy camp last summer.

Coming from Watterson, his academics and leadership is solid.

This kid along with Baird and Colvin and Campenni make a great Dline recruiting class.

Looking forward to watching these guys develop with coach Spencer and staff. Good day to be a Falcon.

Wow...a 515 DL from an 18 year old kid who's over 6ft tall is probably more impressive than a 600 lb squat. We spent a lot of time hailing the "five blocks of granite" Brandon recruited on the OL early in his run. Maynard, Campenni, Baird and Colvin...that's a group that could someday generate that kind of conversation on the DL

Flip,
Funny you should mention the 5 "blocks of granite" recruited by Brandon... sadly, I don't recall many of them making a big splash for us... Could be wrong, but didn't two of them transfer out? But this D line group, assuming that they DO sign next week, could be the start of a turnaround for the Falcon Defense...add in the current returning kids and the D line could wind up being a strength instead of a weakness... looks like Clawson is aiming to fix the D FIRST, then focus on improving the O... not a bad way to look at things based on our recent history. haven't had a dominating Defense in about 7-8 yrs. if my memory serves me right. (it usually doesn't!)

You might be thinking of the blocks of granite part II...the Stevens, Schaefer, Walker, Robinson and German group. I was referring to the first group..Huelsman, Watson, Nystrom, Massey and Lichtenstiger. Massey had a health issue, but the other four were all starters IIRC. Amen on building a dominant D. We've got some quality LB's looking to make an impact this coming year and we really seem to be adding some quality kids in the secondary and on the DL. It would be great to make coming into the Doyt pure living hell again...getting kind of tired of teams coming in with so much swagger...and it's been that way for years.

I'm hearing that the midwest is going to have a great "yield" next year....should be more Ohio and Michigan kids on our list...

Perhaps. But Ohio seems just as strong this year, in both quality and quantity, as in any other (well over 100 FCS recruits).
