Another OL Verbal

Looks like BG has received a verbal from still another OL.... Logan Dietz, 3*, 6'6",270 OT from Pitts. Cent. Cath. HS.... makes a rough total of 11 verbals, with 6 being OL.... is this a sign that we're not happy with the current OL? Would seem to be so.

You have to think 2-3 years ahead with OL, so it is probably not the current group so much as what is behind them a year or two.

I think it's more due to the fact Ben B. is a SR and Chip R and Jordan R are JR's...Kyle B and Dominic F are SO's. We're gonna have to replace Ben after this year and Chip and Jordan after 2012.

Not to argue with you guys on this, but we've got many OL folks on the sidelines now, either being redshirted, or just not getting P.T. And the fact that we can't seem to get 1yd on 3rd and 4th down would make me wonder as to how improved this OL is over a year ago, when it was admittedly, a "mash" unit with multiple injuries.

Yes...we're graduating an OL or two and a couple more are Jr's....you recruit lineman thinking they'll sit a year and then be in a position to compete somewhere on the depth chart. Ideally, they aren't playing much until their 3rd year in the program. At this level, OL are usually to raw to just plug them in. So far as numbers go...under Brandon I think we usually had about 15-18 OL with a few walk ons in there...that's probably where we are now.

You also may recruit a guy to be a "lineman"...leaving yourself the flexibility to move a guy from one side of the ball to the other.

I tend to agree that the OL has had issues controlling the line of scrimmage. They're improved over a year ago, but they have a ways to go. We used to have a few all conference types on the line every year...right now other than Bojicic...who's been playing out of position most of the year...we don't have that .

Agreed. Needs more work, no question.

As of today, ESPN (they are quickly becoming a force in the recruiting biz) show us with 4 *** guys...3 OL and 1 QB.
Nice to see we have some OL talent coming in to push the guys ffrom the last couple of classes
