Should we be looking at/going after ?

Word is that Roger Lewis, a 4* WR, will NOT sign with OSwho on Wed...had "re-opened" his recruitment and was allegedly talking to Ohio U. With our losing Westbrooks, another talented WR would look awful good in Orange and Brown....
Wonder if we're talking with this kid... Cleve. PD just printed that Jack Snowball, a RB from Wadsworth, will sign with Miami on Wed. Kid has rushed for something like 2500 yrds, scored 31 TD's and had very few offers from D-1 schools supposedly.
Again, I wonder why BG has seemingly "neglected" NE Ohio in its recruiting...hitting SW Ohio makes a lot of sense, but the two opposite corners of the state annually produce most of the premium players. :-k

You never know, BG might have talked to those guys and found that for whatever reason they were not interested..

O and B,
That's true, but it still doesn't explain the lack of effective recruiting in NE Ohio... E. Mich., for example, got TWO kids out of Lakewood St. Ed., a perennial FB power, which is sending about 6-8 kids to D-1 schools this year. We haven't had a kid from St. Ignatius in several years...and, for that matter, Mentor HS, coached by a BG alum...has turned up TWO on our current roster over the past 4yrs. (and OU is getting their top LB this year). Canton McKinley, another strong program, was coached by another BG alum, though I think they might have changed coaches recently... It seems like we've lost ground to nearly all the MAC schools in this area of the state, a former stronghold for BG recruits.

Are we offering these kids or signing kids that are worse?

Flip,
As I posted awhile back, one of the nice things about being retired is it gives me time to do dumb things like check out how many NE O. kids are verballed to MAC schools vs. how many SW O. kids etc.

Here's what I found...and obviously things can change in last few days... NE O. kids to MAC schools= 31
SW O. kids to MAC schools= 35....BUT.....

BG currently shows NO kids from NE vs. 5 from SW....
Akron has 3 and 2
Ball St. has 2 and 3
Buffalo has 3 and 1
EMU has 4 and 0
Kent has 7 and 5
Miami has 1 and 9 (just lost an Ignatius kid to Ill. and you know who)
OU has 3 and 1
UT has 2 and 3 (+ several NW O. kids)

BTW: OSU has 6 and 5 currently, a number that seems to change hourly...so much for having "only" 82 schol. available.l
Also checked to see how many kids were "offered" by BG.... answer? Not many

Perhaps I'm beating the proverbial dead horse here, but it seems like we're missing out in what used to be a very important recruting base for us.

The biggest reason for this is probably whoever the recruiter is for NE Ohio is also the recruiter for Pennsylvania / Western PA. Recruiting is all about having and building relationships. Maybe whoever recruits that area has more established connections in those areas.

BG has 3 players from the Pittsburgh area
2 from from Central PA
2 from Philly

61, I note that Roger Smith is the subject of a Columbus Dispatch article concerning his arrest for a serious crime tonight. This info was likely available and we would have then backed completely away from this athlete. Or that may not even have come into play for us as we might have moved away much earlier as it is confirmed several places that he will be a nonqualifier. I note a site shows him as "committed" to Ohio U on Jan 28. I assume that will not happen.

Go Falcons!

FF1,
Thanks for the heads up on this kid....how DUMB can you be to throw away a chance at an education? Of course, too many of these kids only think they'll be in the NFL and don't worry about the education part.

BTW,
Mike and I are coming to the 6pm program in Perrysburg tomorrow...you going to be there? I'm still going to ask Dave Clawson (if I can talk with him) re: lack of recruiting NE Ohio...history will show that some of BG's strongest teams thru the yrs. were heavily numbered by NE Ohio kids.

The recent lack of players from NE Ohio is a concern. There is waaaaaaay too much talent here not to be getting some of them.

This kid is sitting in the Franklin County Jail under a $250,000 bail for two counts of rape. I don't want him.

This. Plus moving to the West Division isolates us even more from the NE Ohio market for future years.

Yet another reason to hate the move to the West. :finga:

It didn't stop Ball State, EMU and UT from making it onto that chart.

OK, I get that you want to own your backyard when recruiting, every school in America wants that. But someone had mentioned somewhere on the board that relationships need to be made and pipelines laid...this is exactly correct! The fact that Clawson and staff are getting kids from Dwyer in FL and some big boys from W. PA is fantastic. Schools and areas such as these are GOLD MINES for talent. I am in no way worried about the present recruiting.
