"De valuing" recruits

Post by Class of 61 »

Don't know if anyone has noticed, but several of BG's verbals have been downgraded by one or more of recruiting sites. A 4 star QB now is a 3, newest kid from Tex. from a 3 to a 2 etc.
Does this reflect a lack of knowledge or just plain disrespect for MAC recruits? #-o

Just my opinion but yes to both. I honestly think part of the rating services calculation is "from whom the recruit is offerred" and "to whom the recruit commits" especially when offerred by so called "better" teams. If he gets interest from OSU, Bama etc....he is almost assured of at least a 3*. If he commits to them he stays high or improves. If he commits to 1AA or whatever PC name it is today he drops quite a bit if rated high. Unfortunately the MAC is considered near to 1AA.

It may not be a full * value drop but I bet its a significant factor in the rating process. They certainly do not evaluate evey player. They rely on the various teams' evaluations of players rather than their own, its much cheaper & reasonably accurate as long as no one checks the quality of their ratings later.

# of offers, offers from whom etc......A lot of built in assumptions minus the true analysis of the individual's situation. A likely scenario is a 3* offerred by Indiana, Purdue and bunch of MAC schools. He commits to a MAC school and a short time later, he's a 2*.

For the most part that assumption is valid but not always. The kid might want playing time over hype or maybe he is a son or nephew of a former player etc....Or maybe he just likes BG better then the other schools for whatever reason.
