BG News: OSU in, but no BG?

Post by BGSU33 »

I look at the BG News online a lot, and today I went there to see if there was an article on the BG/EMU game from last night. I was disappointed to see there wasn't one online (not sure about the printed version), but there was an AP article about OSU/Wisconsin. What's the deal with that?! They have a story on the BG/OU women's game, thankfully, but there wasn't anything posted on our own men's teams in our own paper? I'm not even talking about a staff report, there wasn't even an AP story. What's more, I'm pretty sure the OSU game started an hour after BG's, and the Buckeyes are in and our own Falcons are left out? Baffling...... :x

BG News

Yeah it was pretty crappy to not have an article in the paper but in the upper left corner of the sports page they had a little 2 sentence blurb giving the score, some stats, and the team's records. It seems whenever they are on the road, the BG News doesn't have a big article the next day. Since they personally would have to write it and they probably weren't at the game, it'd be tough to get a whole game description, quotes, and such. When BG is at home they usually have a big article the next morning.

Funny, ESPN didn't have a writer there either but still has a story up:

If you can't get a writer there, use the AP.

Although I don't work there, I do know the process so let me explain. With a school close enough like EMU, they usually send someone to the game. With them getting back late, the article probably didn't go to print. The person who uploads things online takes them directly from the files used in that days paper. I am sure there will be an article in tomorrow's paper.

I understand the filing and deadline process (I did it for eight years myself), but what I am wondering is if they sent a stringer to cover the game, why wouldn't that person file the story from EMU after the game? And if they didn't send a stringer, since they pulled the AP story for OSU, why didn't they pull the AP story for BG? The BG AP story was up at about 9:30 PM. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal and this isn't directed to anyone here for answers per say. But to see OSU in the BG paper and nothing on us, it just struck a nerve. If they run something tomorrow, fine, better late than never but the news is past old by then. I just feel if your going to put OSU in there, fine, but don't put it in over BG if you have the room. The paper is called the BG News, not the OSU News.
