So much for my hopes of stability returning to the hoops program.

This is just a shame. Another transfer, are you all getting as tired of this as me? I'm sure there is a story behind this, but do the excuses really matter anymore? When it is all said and done another quality basketball player has left the program for whatever reason.
Dan, do the honorable thing and resign and the end of the season.

Is this a bad thing? This will give the younger guys more PT which is what we need to do to avoid the transfers. It wasn't even a sure thing Steven would be back next season. Yah it's tough losing a player like Steven but if he wasn't coming back next year this might be the best situation because we only have 3 games (and 1+ tourney game) left in the season and will get those guys PT that had any thought of transferring. On the other hand, what's this do to the team moral. This could easily get in the younger players heads that they need to get out at first opportunity. I don't know. I'm mixed on this. What I do know is Steven is a good player and should be missed. Thank you for the years you gave Steven!
I am in agreement 04. I don't know the facts, but the point is even if Wright was the problem, Wright was here because Dakich brought him here. The coach is responsible for bringing the right type of athletes into his program. Just another example of Dakich bringing in a player that he thinks he can mold into his image and when that isn't working, player and coach develop a hate for each other that brings the entire team down.04forheisman wrote:This is just a shame. You would think, but from what I've seen, I would just guess this means more minutes for Patrick PhillipsCrazyFan wrote:Is this a bad thing? I'm pissed, but not surprised. I think it's time to hunker down for the chaos that is coming. Hopefully we can eventually come out of this funk we're in.
Roll Along!
Maybe there was a conversation like this:
Stephen Wright: Coach, my brother says I need to play point guard to make it in the NBA.
Coach Dakich: But, Steven, that's not where the team needs you.
SW: Well, I will only play point guard. I need to think about myself and getting into the NBA.
CD: Are you putting yourself before the team?
SW: I have to. If I can't play point guard, I am going to take my game elsewhere.
CD: Well, if you are more concerned about yourself and not the team, I guess that would be best.
SW: My brother is waiting in the car for me now. Later. Oh, and thanks for the education.

I am not surprised by this at all. I had a funny feeling that Steve wouldn't come back next year even though he is ready to graduate and very well could if he wishes. I don't know how anyone can be totally surprised when this is really like the 4th or 5th time that Wright has actually quit the team in the past few years.
I hope we can keep the rest of this group together and see them grow, but at this point I would be pretty surprised if we don't lose at least one or two more throughout the offseason...it's just become our yearly trend.
As to Warthog who says, "...but the point is even if Wright was the problem..." I have a comment. Perhaps Wright was the/a problem...I don't know. What I do know is that I doubt VERY seriously that Moss, Lewis, Wright, Montgomery, Rosefelt, Hobson, Harwell, and Vandermeer were ALL the problem.
Yes that's right...in our classes from 2002-2004 the only guys still in the program are LeFeld and Moon. I don't know what the issues are, but that is just not acceptable no matter what sorts of excuses we can come up with.

I agree, it is time to quit making up excuses. They are all old, I know Dan is a great guy that you would want to have a beer with, but this train wreck has to stop.hammb wrote:I am not surprised by this at all. No, I haven't. Why should I?BGDrew wrote:Have you contacted Krebs hammb?
He's the athletic director, I'm pretty sure that he's well aware of the situation and the trend that is painfully obvious to us all. I don't care if we had the best gameday coach in the history of the NCAA (which we don't) it is very disturbing when you cannot keep more than 2 kids out of the last 10 to enter your program (not counting this year's recruits, yet).
If anyone is so starry eyed that they cannot admit there must be a larger issue here, then I don't know what to say.
My opinion, if you don't do anything to fix the "problem" then you really shouldn't complain about it.

Do you honestly think a email to an athletic director will "fix" the problem. We are fans, we can complain. Paul Krebs knows what is going on. It is simple, BG can not and will not fire a coach while they are under contract due to financial reasons. Unless, Dan does the right thing and resigns like Blackney did we will continue our downward spiral.BGDrew wrote:My opinion, if you don't do anything to fix the "problem" then you really shouldn't complain about it.

So bitching about it on a web forum is going to get things done quicker?
