like I said before I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to the studentsRobbyFalcon wrote:I'm sure this has been covered somewhere before, but I doubt if DD is going anywhere if he still has time left on his contract. BG is not the kind of school that fires/buys out coaches unless there is some sort of scandal. Having a crappy team does not equate to a scandal.
The kids are kids: they don't know what they like, they like what they know. If they liked OSU when they were 12, they'll like OSU when they're 18 or 19. BGSU is often considered a cupcake to a lot of schools in some sports. So if a kid was 14 when he saw OSU beat BG in something, and the TV commentators knew everyone on OSU but only two names for the Falcons then BG gets put on the trash-heap punching bags.
When I was there I heard the same garbage. Kids would rather watch a game on TV than go to AA or the Doyt. It was goofy then and it's goofy now.
But what can you expect from a population that consistently ruins perfectly good liquor by adding Red Bull and thinks that a mesh hat is "retro" cool like Ashton Kutcher?
Get off my lawn!!!

Go Falcons!!!

I could also be wrong, but I recall hearing something about a cap...UTRIPLETS wrote:In addition, I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that bowling green was raising tuition next semester. Is that an accurate statement? I could have sworn that I heard on the news this afternoon.

I will agree that the marketing people have not done nearly enough to get students to come to games.[/quote]
It's easy to say that. What do you suggest they do to get us to come watch a team that is in a down year on a week night when Cinnci or UM or another one of our teams are on tv or we just finished classes for the day?

Yeesh, there's the problem. How do you combat that attitude? Kids go to BG and think of Cincinnati as "their team"? Huh?
If you go to BG, BG should be "your team." You could have went to UC but you know their campus is hideous, the neighborhood is ugly and full of psuedo-punk rockers and criminals.
If a student would rather watch TV than go to a live event, it doesn't matter if he's watching UC, or UM or American Idol. He's still watching TV.

Hey now you don't have to hate on UC's campus that much, we know it's not in the best area in Cincinnati. As for people saying UC or Michigan is "their team" is because they have been fans of their schools all their lives. Now saying that UC is "my team" my #2 team behind BG. Like I said earlier UC was my #1 team when I first came here, and now BG is #1 to me, that's why I want one of BG's bball teams to play at UC, so I can cheer on BG in my hometown. As for the TV thing, I did watch the UC/Villanova game last night, after I got back from the BG hockey game. Like I have said before in this post, I guess I'm in the minority.

i agree completely! people always say we dont pay for athletics...well they are wrong!

When I said "our teams" I was making reference to the people who were posting before saying that they would rather be rooting for michigan or cinci. I completely agree with you when you say BG should be your team if you go to school here. But you still didn't answer my question. If the problem is kids who go to school here are fans of other college teams you can't screen them during their application process and decide to reject every student who applies here based on what college team they love most.
If I were hired as head coach...
...I would go to inner city Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, and Cincinnatti because there is something we can offer to the parents of the players there that not many other big schools can. We aren't near the city, we can offer athletes and their parents the chance to get their kids out of the city and away from danger while persuing an education at one of the countries top universities for graduating student athletes.

I was at BG from 2001 to this winter, and I think that BGSU is making progress in "fan building." I think by consistantly putting competitive teams out there, the university is slowly increasing the amount of students that live and die for BG athletics. I know that it's discouraging seeing poor attendance at games, and easy to say that no progress is being made. But I also think this is a very slow process. Just look at the upgrades our football team has gone through in the last 4 years. More and more people it seems to me are starting to come around to BG. Look at the growth of this website. When I came to school here, I could've cared less about BG athletics, and now I can't live without them. I think that with time we we start to see a bigger following among allumni and in turn current students. It's tough to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I have first hand knowlege of success stories of BG students overcoming OSU syndrome. Take this for what it's worth, but I really do think that if we give it time, they will come.
(of course consistently putting a competitive product out there and upgrading facilities will help too)
I see your Swartz is as big as mine!

As an RTVF major myself, and someone who played "Bollocks" on my WBGU radio show almost every week, I appreciate the irony of you posting not once, but twice to say what a waste the topic is.BGorDeath wrote:Just as this topic is a perfectly good waste of bandwidth.
