"Weak OOC Schedule"?

Post by Class of 61 »

Several posters referred to BG's "weak out of conf" sched. I decided to look at the schedule, as I vaguely remember that Curt Miller deliberately "toughened up" the schedule with a LOT of road games to boot. This is what I found:
St. Francis - Home- last year tourn. team if I recall correctly
Indiana- Away- in THEIR tourn. on THEIR floor
Detroit- Away
Duquesne-H - Believe they were in tourn. last year too.
Delaware- N- This year's tourn. team
Iona- N - perennial basketball power
Kentucky-A-NITeam this year- Beat Tennessee

There were a few other, lesser known schools (the Indiana-Purdue combos), but my point is that we can only schedule " tougher" teams based on what they did prior year....unless we can get some ACC schools to play us.(or similar)
Now, there's "another" Ohio women's team who finished the year with a nearly identical record to the Falcons....Here are some of the teams on THEIR schedule this year:
E. Ky.- H
Nicholls St.-H
W. Ill.-H
Dayton-H
Sacred Heart-H
Canisius - H
This team DID play several nationallly ranked teams OOC, but my point again is.... how "tough" is THEIR OOC schedule when these teams are included, and especially since they're all Home games?

Good points. One correction (or mabye my misreading) UK was a NIT last year, NCAA team this year. They lost a very tough game agaisnt a Senior led MSU team. UK came very close to being a sweet 16 team this year, with Freshman/Sophmore leadership.

Ohio State's OOC schedule isn't all that important because they get to play a bunch of very solid B11 teams.

When you are trying to earn respect at the MAC level, you must play an even tougher OOC schedule. We're getting there. The last couple of years were not unlike where Gonzaga (Men's) was at 8-10 years ago. It is possible to climb to that level in 5 years if the stars align. We're on the right track, but we just need a little patience.

The year after next will be a very telling sign for the future of Miller and this program.

Nah, that would just fuel UT fans' fire that we just want to be like them.

I didn't even notice. But know that you bring it up, I'm telling Flipper, and boy is he going to be mad.
