Larranaga to the Final Four
Larranaga to the Final Four
Since George Mason knocked out UCONN (my pick) I have no choice but to root for Mason. Good luck to Larranaga.
He's a nice guy, and I hope he wins it all.

UCONN was my pick, too - but I found myself wanting George Mason to win today anyway. It would be great to see a Mid Major - that the " so called " experts said didn't even belong in the tournament - - WIN IT ALL!!!!!!da3mite wrote:Since George Mason knocked out UCONN (my pick) I have no choice but to root for Mason. I like to say there's no such thing as an upset in March. Upsets are for November and December. If you lose in March, however, then you SHOULD'VE lost.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:same here, the upsets make the tourney fun, and that's why I wanted the upsetRed Wing Fan wrote:UCONN was my pick, too - but I found myself wanting George Mason to win today anyway. BO, I would have to disagree with your statement that upsets don't happen in March. Are you trying to tell me that if UConn and GM would have played at anytime during the season, that GM would have won? It's an upset anytime a team wins that shouldn't. GM was a team that barely got into the tournament. They were one of the last teams in. They didn't play like a Final Four team all year long, and now they are in there. Teams don't lose in March because they don't deserve to win, they lose in March because they might have a bad shooting night, or sometimes they just don't have the right matchup for a particular team. And sometimes, you get beat by a team that just has something to prove, and doesn't want to go home. If UConn and GM would have played three times during the regular season, UConn would have won at the very least three of them. But when you get into a tournament, there are many factors that come into play. It's an upset more in March than it is in November and December because teams are still gelling at that time, while in March, teams that are successful are just that, TEAMS. That is just my opinion.

All right, now you're just getting mean, and it's 'parity'. The NCAA Tournament is the culmination of what these have been shooting for all year. Unlike November, good teams give it their all in these games, are at their peak and are completely focused. It's what they're thinking about in during the summer workouts and in the weight room. When a team wins a game, I think that they deserve full credit for being better and actually winning the real life game, which is what actually matter, regardless of subjective crap like the seeding or the perceived prestige of the program (which is what always motivates the application of the term). When a win called an 'upset', it's dismissive. In my mind, it takes belittles the winning team and somewhat deligitimizes what they've accomplished. As a lifetime supporter of mid-majors, I've seen the term misapplied mindlessly to good mid-major wins over mediocre power conference team time and time and time again, at it bugs the sh1t out of me.svillefalcon wrote:BO, are you a friggin idiot?
