Someone is leaving the program
Someone is leaving the program
I heard today that Artie Pepelea has accepted a position with a school in TN. Don't know where, just know that he is leaving BG. Wonder if he was looking to distance himself from Dakich in case his contract is not extended, or if perhaps Stone had moved up to Dakich's #1 assistant, so Artie thought it best to leave?

As long as Artie was around, he was going to be considered #1, although it's fairly safe to assume that Stone has made great strides in recruiting, that does not necessarily warrant him #1 asst status, it just means that he is able to key in on a specific need area.
Most schools have a top asst that primarily serves with X's and O's and a recruiting coordinator much like in football that is constantly beating the paths trying to establish those connections.
Best of luck to Artie wherever he winds up.

All I can say is, and this is not a cut on Artie at all, but WHEEEEEW!!!! I thought this thread was going to say another player was leaving. Best of luck to Artie, but I'm thrilled it's a coach and not another player that we're talking about this time around. I get very nervous any time we start a new thread on here in the off-season.....then again, we've even lost players during the season, so I guess you could say I get nervous every time I come to this board.
GO BG!!!

I heard that he has been trying to find another job for a couple of years. This is definitely a program that you would want to be leaving right now. One year left on a contract following an awful season. Anyone in their right mind would be looking for something else.Warthog wrote:I heard today that Artie Pepelea has accepted a position with a school in TN. Good luck to Artie. He is a super nice guy and is easy to root for. I think he probably has been looking for a job for a couple years...obviously, he probably wants to move up, get more responsibility, be the head guy someday (like many people), and if you stay in one spot too long, it can work against you.

If that's the case, a new person with a fresh perspective might be just what the program needs.Red Wing Fan wrote:I heard that he has been trying to find another job for a couple of years. I'd elevate LaMonta Stone to the #1 assistant position and give him the title of Associate Head Coach.

Exactly. Lamonta Stone seems to have done alot more for us recruiting wise than Artie ever could this not a slam on Arite but I think Stone moving up as #1 Assitant Coach helps us out alot. I'm sure glad to hear its not a player.JoeFalcon wrote:If that's the case, a new person with a fresh perspective might be just what the program needs.Red Wing Fan wrote:I heard that he has been trying to find another job for a couple of years. Boy, that sure sounds like a slam. I hope he does very well and makes BG proud. Who knows if he will be a Falcon again or not.

I'm pretty sure Artie will be on the sidelines of the Middle Tennessee St. University Blue Raiders next winter. Best of luck to him!!

It certainly helps with Dakich on a one year deal.falconboy wrote:Exactly. It was reported in today's Blade that Artie is leaving for Middle TN State. Stone has been promoted to the top assisstant position.
Goodl luck to Artie and his family. His wife has been the favorite teacher at St. Aloysius since she started there. My two older kids really enjoyed her, my youngest will miss out.

Norm mentioned this on 1470 last night as well. He went back into his, "if the MAC wants to be better they have to start paying their coaches better..." speech. Apparently Artie is going to be in a similar position with MTSU, but will be getting a raise of approximately 50% over his pay at BG.
