Yeah, 21-year-old Haris Charalambous passed away today.

Very sad... condolences to all his Rocket family members.

Okay -- sorry about that -- usually I'm not that classless. My heart goes out to the Toledo family.

Not sure what was said in earlier post but I will leave it that by all accounts, including my personal impressions, Haris was a totally class act. This is devastating. Thanks to those who offered their sincere condolences.

I'm sad to hear about this. Best wishes to the family and UT.

Is it just me or this type of thing becoming more and more common in athletics?

As always, this just sucks to hear. I feel bad for all his family, friends, and teammates. It's always a shock when you hear about these kids, that are in great physical shape, suffering from fatal injuries during training.

As for them becoming more common, I'd be willing to bet they are far LESS common than they were 20-30 years ago. The difference is now you hear about every single one of these instances nationwide. The way coaches used to treat players in the past, with water being held back as punishment, etc, I have to believe these things are less common nowadays.

I don't think it's very common. The stories just get so hugely publicized, it seems like it happens all the time. When you think about the sheer number of kids participating in college athletic programs, very few have had problems.

Very sad whenever it does happen though. The BG community knows all too well. Condolences.
