The MAC clearly suffered a down year last year.
Regret ably, we're not faring very well this year, either. It's almost mid December, and the Sagarin ratings may by know have enough observations to be statistically meaningful. For BG, despite a 3-3 record against D1 teams, our Sagarin ranking is 251. Obviously, this is because of the low rating of ALL of our opponents.
Ark State, 275
Troy, 195
S. Alabama, 165
C. Ark, 289 (a home loss, baby)
Furman 161
The rest of the conference is stinking as well. We have two teams in the top 100, Akron (87) and Kent (99). CMU and NIU are both south of 200 at 220 and 227, respectively. And, ....EMU is sitting out there at a cool 309. (The days of the Thomas twins are a distant memory. So much for bigger gyms leading to better programs.)
Toledo's murderous schedule has gotten them a 107 ranking. The rest of the conference sits undistinguished in the mid 100s.
The MAC is the 13th rated conference.
Interestingly, the Missouri Valley is #3. (Remember when we compared ourselves to them?) They have 7 teams rated ahead or our leading team. Wichita State has the #1 rating.
Does MAC hoops stink this year, too?

The conference is worst than I thought it would be but I think by MAC tournament time several teams will be pretty good.BleedOrange wrote:The MAC clearly suffered a down year last year.

Well, it's due to this miserable out of conference mess the MAC teams have created by losing many winnable games that we will only be a one bid conference come NCAA time AGAIN! And yes, BGSU is part of the problem. We are improved over last year, no doubt, but we REALLY need to get a lot better still. Marschalls injury looks like it is going to hurt us a lot!
