Athens & OU comparable to BG & BGSU??? You have got to be kidding. BG isn't even in the same league as OU, except for the MAC. Even that is a stretch.Globetrotter wrote:The city and school are comparable to BG in size correct? or no?

There are a couple of things to think about.Globetrotter wrote:The city and school are comparable to BG in size correct? or no?
First, Ohio has a stronger basketball tradition. We're all mindful of the Harld Anderson era, but that was 40 years ago. Over the past four decades, the Bobcats have done a lot more to inspire fan loyalty.
More importantly, while the communities and the schools are of similar size, Athens is more significant because of its remote location. Entertainment options in southeast Ohio are relatively slim, and -- in a troubled region of the state -- Athens stands out as a major employment center. People are used to driving there.
Bowling Green probably offers a similar number of good jobs, but the significance is drowned out by the presence of Toledo. For historical and geogrpahical reasons, people in Northwest Ohio are just not in the habit of making Bowling Green a destination in the same way that folks in southeast Ohio are used to driving to Athens.

Makes sense. His inept writings in the BGNews and the Toledo City Paper show that he may very well have been scorned by the Scripps school. As a result, he's trying to stir up feelings from BG's fans to project his own embarrassment and anger onto OU and its fans.Globetrotter wrote:Are you sussman?

4000 is low for an OU game.
The population within a 30 mile radius around BG is one HELL of a lot higher than that around Athens. There's BG, Fremont, Defiance, and Findlay, not to mention that the south half of Toledo has easy access to BG.
Thirty and 40 years ago, there were regular sellouts in AA. We've had population growth since then, but our attendance has trended downwards.
It is due to this set of facts that I get very annoyed with the small-minded, zero-vision, zero-ambition set that insists that we need no more than 6,000 in a new facility. Furthermore, if THAT is all that we're going to build (implying that THAT is ultimately what we're shooting for in hoops for th next 50 years), I believe that building anything new AT ALL is completely unjustified, costwise. That sounds like building a new facility merely for the sake of building a new facility. Spending millions on a new facility would make no sense whatsoever. Staying in AA would be the only option that makes any business sense at all.

Actually, it's a good read most weeks. The City Paper is kind of fluffy for my tastes while the TFP actually covers some news.jacojdm wrote:My apologies.
