"Dakich, when asked to respond to criticism of BG's non-conference slate, bristled, demanding to know "who is saying that? Internet message boards and chatrooms? I can promise you that those bitching about our schedule never coached." Dakich continued, "we have tried our best to do exactly what the MAC has asked us in terms of scheduling. If we could we would play nothing but high-majors if I could get us a 50-50 deal." "

So all coaches want an easy OOC schedule? Interesting.

The perspective of non-coaches (e.g., the fans who have to pay to watch Central Arkansas instead of more profile program if they want to support their team) doesn't matter?

At least he didn't say "____ them" this time.

I am sure he was thinking something alone those lines. I agree the OCC schedule sucks this year and has done NOTHING to prepare us for MAC play, but I will cut him some slack. When you are as bad as we are even mediocre teams won't play you. Perhaps expecting a one for one right now is setting the bar a bit too high. His comments off the court are what dissapoints me the most and makes me hope this is his last year. It seems like he is paying more attention to defending himself against what people on a board are saying and not addressing fundamental flaws with his team like rebounding. It's not like we have EVER been a decent rebounding team since his arrival and re-arrival. Maybe a shift of focus to matters on the floor would get some of the off court pressure to go away. Either way, it's time for the University to part ways and wish him well in future endevors.

I've always been entertained by Dakich's sideline antics and always felt like he got more out of the "talent" on his squads than what they possessed naturally......but holy smokes.....is the guy just flat out stupid? Does he really believe the words that come from his mouth? Maybe it is possible that at the time he assembled his schedule for this season, he thought he was putting together a schedule that was fairly tough. However, he needs to man up and acknowledge that the OOC schedule was what it was....incredibly weak. His team is not prepared at all for conference play and if it wasn't for Buffalo's inability to close out a game, something that has been an issue for them the entire time Reggie has been there, his team would have a big doughnut under the W column in the conference standings. I hate to say it but the number in that column probably won't get much higher than it is right now....although, by default (thank God for the 6 games versus opponents from the very pathetic west division), they COULD salvage a near .500 conference record. If you read just about anything that comes from unbiased sources, BG was picked to finish last in the East and anywhere from 9th to 11th overall this season. Unfortunately, that's seeming to be the reality for this team. Samarco just isn't going to score 43 in any more conference games (unless there is a coach somewhere in the MAC who is completely asleep) and there isn't anybody else talented enough, by conference standards, to pick up the slack and be a solid 2nd option from game to game. I feel bad for Martin...that his coach couldn't bring better players in to give him a hand. He really is a fantastic player who probably deserves, more than any other player in the conference, the chance to play in the big dance on the biggest stage of all...and that's not going to happen. It's a shame for him and it's a shame for college basketball fans everywhere who are going to miss out on the opportunity to see him play. Who knows. Maybe Dakich will remove his head from his backside long enough to COACH the kids instead of whine about what we say on message boards about him. Someone needs to remind him that he still draws a paycheck from BGSU and still has a job to do. There is still a LOT of time left for him to get substantial improvement out of his team in time for Cleveland....and who knows what can happen once it gets to that point.

In the meantime, all I feel, from the quotes I've read out of him, is disappointment and disgust.
