I agree. Times have passed BG by in many ways. When Krebs got here, we saw a sharp transition by old standards. A lot of people thought he was aloof, impersonal. When Urban got here, that perception grew I think, because he was used to far more modern and high profile programs. Changes in seating, and a host of other things, were protested, nasty little comments made. I didn't like all the changes, but I could see why it was happening.
Krebs was here to make a "lets do a SHOW!" operation into a something approaching the modern business model used at other schools. In so many ways, BGSU sports were, until then, about the same as they had been for 50 years. The MAC wasn't much different overall.
Some pin it on Marshall, but in truth the changes were long underway. Either the MAC, and BGSU by extension, were going to become a truly professional operation, or the Blade articles about dropping to 1AA were going to hold water.
And that really is it. 1AA is where you go if you want to be a warm fuzzy place. Or D2 or 3. This is a D1 program, as it should be. We hate the changes, but we can't win being the "feel good" operation of the MAC and CCHA.
I'd accept a less personable program in a heartbeat if the darned teams were doing better, the facilities seriously maintained, etc. Build me a better basketball arena, and I'll pay more. Put turf and better food in the Doyt, and I'll pay a few bucks more. WIN more, and I guess I'll have to pay what I have to pay.
Right now, little to any of that is going on. Like the coaches, but prefer a winning team folks.
