Akron vs Miami(OH)

Post by MarkL »

The game's late in the second half and Akron is still ahead but can't put the Redhawks away. If Akron finishes out on top, how well would they represent the MAC in the NCAA tourney? I'd hope well, they have some great talent inside the paint but they are awfully inconsistent.

What a finish!!
Miami has a good reputation in the NCAA tournament. I sure hope they represent the MAC well.

Yes but how the heck did they determine to put any time back on the clock when there should have been less time if the clock malfunctions and the replay shows the ball in the net at 0.0 Game should have ended as soon as they determined the shot was off in time.

Well at least the whole country was able to see the joke that is MAC officiating. That ending was all kinds of horrible.
Would you like some chapagna?

Fred, the clock started too late, not too early. So, they used the replay to determine how much time should have been on the clock.

Great game. Congrats to Miami, though I believe Akron would have been our best conference rep. Miami will be one and out.

I dunno about Miami going one and out. Wasn't it Miami that had a Sweet 16 run a while back, or was that Kent? I don't remember for sure which.

Does it really matter when it is a completely different set of guys? Miami will not get a good seed, and will be out, as other MAC teams have.

Agreed with the above. The ending of that (before the 10 minute debate), was fantastic, but I really don't think that Miami will have any shot of winning much of anything in the NCAA tourney. Well, things happen.

I believe Kent had an elite 8 run back in 02, though it may have just been sweet 16. I don't remember what Miami has done since Sczerbiak or whatever went there. they may have gone to the sweet 16 then.

Miami (OH) made it to the Sweet 16 in 1999 w/ Newble and Sczerbiak. It was the Redhawks' last trip to the Dance.
Kent lost to Indiana in the Elite 8 in 2002 (a year BG should have had an at large bid).

Miami will be no better than a 13 seed and will be one & done. I was REALLY pulling for Akron.

Do you all realize how badly the MAC needs to start winning some tourney games? We're really going to be losing some cash soon as KSU's elite 8 run is gonna be gone next year.

I was also pulling for Akron last night. I thought their chances in a 4/13 game were pretty slim, but much better than Miami in a 3/14 (at best) game. Give credit to Charlie Coles, though, he has that team ready to go at tourney time every year.

I was having dinner when the shot occurred and I still haven't seen a replay, but reading the articles made me think back to the 3 hit by Jason Grunkemeyer at the buzzer in the 2000 first round against us. Miami has had some good luck in the MAC tournament over the past decade. Hopefully they can take that into the NCAA tournament with them and pull a shocker.

after the game winner, why didn't Miami just run right off the court? ;-)
