Very true, as I was not comparing them. They are extremely different, and we have enough trouble shooting a high percentage without the burden of helmets and shoulder pads.

I only mentioned the bowl game to BGSU33 as a way to break his state of malaise.

Well does this ever suck

Hamblet is gone. It reminds me now, of DD's frist year, except he made his own luck by dismissing a player or two....hmmm....Dusan and now Hamblet. He did one and Hamblet did himself.

They were joking that some former players had to be escorted to class. Only problem is I believe them :-)

If anybody wonders, OP has/had a 4.0 GPA!!!

Well, it won't be this year. So sit back and wait out the bumpy ride. Or like they said, "Outside of that Mrs. Lincoln, Did you enjoy the play?"

That's it, he's gone for good this year??? If this is true, I will say it here right now, you can stick the proverbial fork right in us. We are done.

I have heard rumors that Hamblet was gone, but they were unsubstantiated, so I didn't post it here. HoopsFan's post is yet another source, so it's starting to sound like he's likely gone.

If he is, that doesn't make us "done".

We'll definitely miss his scoring, and his long arms on defense, but I don't think we'll miss his lousy court vision and insane turnovers. This does force Jakubowski into a baptism by fire, but hopefully he'll be better off for it in the long run.

If Hamblet cannot do off the court what it takes to stay on the court, then I don't want him on my team anyways.

Because we were a lock for a MAC title with Hamblet?

This is a transition year. It might be another year or two before Orr has the right players for his system.

Please don't drag out the addition by subtraction rant

Ya know, part of the reason I was on the several year plan was because I didn't go to class. I took an all or nothing final and got nothing. I went to summer school and got an A and two B's, only to get a job in the second half of summer and get a C and an I. Hindsight being 20-20, I could have dropped out of the second half classes and stayed in school that fall, but it taught me a lesson. It also took me 3 years to erase the grades from my "don't go to class" phase. At the end of my first year and a half, I think I had enough credits to be a 2nd semester Freshman.

I was sort of on "scholarship" in that the money was paid by my parents and I didn't have to work except for spending money. When I went back, it was on my dime...or my employer's who rewarded me by paying 100% for A's and B's and 50% for C's. I got one C and all the rest A's and B's.

Incentive is such a motivator :-)

Not what I am saying at all. The only “lock” I would argue we are is a team likely to finish in the bottom of the MAC standings again. With the team we returned this year, I thought we had some promise to get out of the basement in the conference. Not to win the MAC, but to at least climb into the middle tier of the MAC standings after spending the last few years buried at the bottom. But after losing Marschall and now Hamblet, I just cannot see us competing again this year against the likes Kent State, Ohio, Miami and Akron. These teams have simply owned us over the past few years and they’ll probably continue that streak once again this season. I think we’re going to get rolled in the MAC again. I hope I’m wrong, but we’ll get our first test in two weeks when we meet OU. We’ll see the likes of the entire MAC East with Ohio, Kent State, Buffalo, Akron and Miami (all in that order) in a three-week span. We’ll see then what we’re made of and if I was wrong about my thoughts.

We will quite likely have another rough season in the MAC. Losing Hamblet won't be the reason for it.

The reason will be the same that it has been for the past few seasons. Our guards aren't good enough for the MAC. Maybe Jakubowski can prove to be a good MAC player, but he's the only one I hold out much hope for at this point. Sims, Clements, Moten, and even Hamblet, have never shown the ability to play at a consistently high enough level for the team to be a threat in this league.

Knight it still a freshman, but he can play. He & Miller are both quality players. Maybe not all MAC, but they're in the upper half for their positions. Larson/Polk, when on the court, have given some production.

None of it matters because our guard play is lousy and it has been lousy since the '02 season. Hamblet may have been better than what we're left with now, but him playing the point for 20 minutes a game wasn't going to get us any closer to winning in the MAC anyhow.
