Checking In!!

Post by CoryR24 »

Hello everyone...Just wanted to check in and see how things were going this year. How is the new coach doing? I haven't been able to get to a game this year but I am going to try hard to get to the Miami game here in Oxford. Anyways if you have any information on past players or need any I will be happy to let you know what I know. Have a great day.

Coach Orr has shown what good coaching means. Dakich is now coaching IU, and the guys he was losing with around here are actually pullling out a decent season. We put Miami down earlier this season, here's to you seeing the same down in oxford.

The guys he was losing with last year are all a year older---you forgot to say that part of it. Plus Orr has the freshman of the year in Chris Knight that Dan recruited.

Yea, I agree to a point with both of those posts. Orr does have players that are a year older and he does have Chris Knight who Dakich recruited, but he also doesn't have Martin Samarco who led the league in scoring.

Personally, I don't think Dan is a BAD coach....we just needed a change. The team just felt stale. I'm actually really hoping he takes Indiana on a long tourney run this year.

The change worked out for both parties. I think Louis Orr is the guy that will take us dancing in March and Dan has his dream job. I think we should just leave it that.

I almost forgot.......GREAT to hear from you Cory. You should definately try to catch a game when you get the chance. Maybe you could suit up and hit some 3's for us.

Time as passed

Post by CoryR24 »

I wish I could suit up but I wasn't that great of a shooter back then and with 5 years of having a job, and a family I believe I am better off sitting on the sidelines and coaching, or watching. Yeah I am going to come to games next year and I am going to make the Miami game this year. I hope to see some fans there that I actually know. Good talking to you and good luck with the rest of the season.

Too bad you didn't come to that realization while you were still playing.

Just kidding Cory. Hope all is well with you and your family. Are you actually doing some coaching or is that something you would like to do downthe road?

I believe I still might be able to shoot good enough to make things interesting just the rest of the body, knees and ankles probably wouldnt be able to make it up and down the court.

This past season I helped with many different teams. I was an assistant coach for the Varsity Boy's team and Varsity Girls team at my old high school. I also coached the 7th grade girls program. And this summer I am going to help run the individual workouts for the boys and help with the girls. I helped out as much as time permitted me to. I really enjoyed it and I really hope that I am able to get a high school program here in the next couple years. My old high school would be a position I would really like to get but until the current coach leaves I am going to just help out as much as I can.

Great to hear from you Cory. I always appreciated the tough D you played against some of the top MAC scorers. Now that you are both removed from the program do you have any favorite Dakich stories or just a general impression of what it was like to play for him?

Thanks and I tried to play as hard as I could every night and hopefully people appreciated that at least from that stand point.

Playing for Coach was hard in many ways but the fact of the matter was he was just trying to get the most out of every person he had. He had his times where we thought as a team that it was too much but then we also accepted it because we looked at the bright side and knew he was tough on us in hopes to achieve that best possible season. I will never go and bash him and say all the negative things because there are many many postive things he gave to me. I respect him as a coach and I hope that he is able to get back to having his own program. I know the Indiana thing is probably a short term but I think he will have an opportunity somewhere to get back at the head spot. His players graduated and I know that a lot of them are better people because of him and that includes me.

I know it wasnt what you wanted but I figured I would give you something. Thanks again and congrats on the big win Saturday.

Don't apologize Cory. You told me exactly what I wanted to hear - the truth.

I bet Dan was a monster to play for during the season. But I also know that he was very proud of his players for sticking with it and eventually graduating.
