My question, then, is has this rule been changed recently? Didn't Sammy Villegas sit out a year as ineligible before winning the MAC FOY award over Ron Lewis a few years back?

Personally, I have no problems with this rule, if it is true. I remember saying at the time Villegas won it that I didn't think he should be eligible for the award, but maybe he wasn't academically ineligible and he was just red-shirted?

Either way the award is really meaningless. Knight had a decent year here, hopefully he builds on it next year. He's a talented player who has a pretty tremendous ceiling. Freshman of the year awards don't mean a whole heckuva lot anyways...let me know when he's ready to win player of the year.

villegas was a redshirt. Currently playing for San German of Puerto Rico after averaging 20 a game for Barcenoleta last year. Incidentally, San German is one beautiful little city with a town square that is some 500 years old.

I'm pretty sure CK was not eligible for all-freshman team, b/c it is a MAC-sponsored award. But, i believe he WAS eligible for FOY, b/c it is a MAC News Media Association-sponsored award. I could be wrong.
