Indiana...one and done
I used to be a big Dan fan, and when he left I wished him luck. I thought a change of scenery would be good for him, and it still may end up being true somewhere. However, I said a couple of times that his playful charisma at times seemed as though it was forced and he really wasn't as great of a guy as he seemed.
His comments since leaving BG make really question many of the good things he did/said at BG. He was loved in this town as a great guy, but he hasn't hesitated to rip the fans and school since he left.
His remarks over the past couple of months make me want to see him fail, rather than root for him...

On the subject of Dan's "T"... am I crazy, or did he attempt the same thing once during a game at AA? I had this strange flashback memory of something like that when I read about it in an article, but who knows... I could be making it up.

What did he actually do? I figured it was because he kept walking so far on the court but I am not sure.Peregrinner wrote:On the subject of Dan's "T"... am I crazy, or did he attempt the same thing once during a game at AA? From what I read, a loose ball came his way and instead of tossing it back to the official, he took a shot from the sideline.kdog27 wrote:What did he actually do? I recognize all of the words in your post, but I can't glean any substantive meaning out of them.guest44 wrote: Obscurity -- wouldn't that be a fitting word for the state of MAC Basketball in general at this point. Or atleast the direction the ship is sailing.
In other words, HUH!? We're talking about a coach, not a conference.

I for one am glad Dakich lost. He had a great opportunity with his "dream job" and he screwed it up big time. The way he has treated the BG community since leaving shows just how little he really cared about this area, he was all about putting up a face to keep his job. I warned a lot of IU students and alums when they brought him in for the interim job, and I don't think many of them really knew what they were getting into.
It wouldn't surprise me if IU kept Dan in the basketball program at some capacity, but I highly doubt he'll ever get a D-1 coaching position ever again. His childish antics in that game against Arkansas seemed to really deflate his team, and I couldn't believe it when they said what he did on the radio.

You realize that with the luck of BG, this would result in Toledo winning 7 straight MAC Championships, beating us every year and Dakich being named Coach of the year several times...I don't want to see him again in any capacity anywhere near the MAC.Warthog wrote:I'm hoping Toledo makes him an offer.

They're talking about another current IU guy, Ray McCallum, as a "home run" candidate for the Toledo job. He was passed over in favor of Dakich for the interim coaching role, but considering the track record of the IU administration in hiring coaches it's probably a selling point for him. DD will likely do what all once, twice (or even thrice) fired coaches do and what he originally was trying to do at IU: lay low for a few years as an assistant, ideally with a winning program, and build your reputation back up.
Someone mentioned high school coaching as an option for him before and I think that would be ideal. I don't know how a college AD can ever hand over the keys of a program to him if they do their research and learn about the revolving door roster he oversaw the last few years at BG.

At one time it appeared Dan Dakich liked being in Bowling Green. But no one who truly enjoyed being in Bowling Green could ever say they stayed there too long.
Four years wasn't too long. The one time a year I can make it back isn't enough. If being in Bowling Green was really affecting his career negatively, he would've stayed in Morgantown. I don't get it.
