Georgia St. is loaded with SEC, ACC & Big East transfers

Post by BGSU33 »

I took a quick look at Georgia State's roster and saw there are six players who have transferred from the SEC, ACC or Big East to Georgia State. That's about half their team. The transfers are:

Trey Hampton (Ole Miss)
Xavier Hansbro (Ole Miss)
Bernard Rimmer (Mississippi State)
Joe Dukes (Wake Forest)

They also have Dante Curry (South Florida) who will become eligible in December & Marques Johnson (N.C. State) who will be eligible next year.

Georgia State was picked to finish 6th in the 12-team CAA this year and also return Leonard Mendez, a First Team All-CAA selection. This should be a pretty solid team to face off against in the season opener. It's a shame we'll be without two starters for this tournament.

Yes we are loaded and are an entirely different team then the one that went 9-21 in Coach Barnes' first year at Georgia State.

But in our two exhibition games our team hasn't looked too good. Many believe it is because the players are trying to figure out their roles on the team, and in the game. Haven't really gelled yet.

So if anything it will be interesting to see what happens. At first I thought GSU had a good chance to steal this one from y'all. Then after the GSU exhibition games it seemed like you guys would have the upper hand. But now hearing that your two stars may miss the game, makes me think that both teams have a 50-50 shot.

If you guys want to talk about the game you are welcome to come on over to our board @ http://www.caazone.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=29

Thats nice of you but I'd say based soley on your better overall talent level presently with your new transfers that you guys would have the upper hand. That is unless your transfers are not eligible this year and have to sit out.

Out of curiosity, do you know anything about these transfers or are you basing this opinion on the leagues/teams they came from?

I can honestly say I don't know the least bit about any of them. They may have been superstars or they may have been guys who figured they'd spend their careers on the bench, so left for some better PT. I am curious now, so I'm about to go see what I can find out.
