I second that. My God I cannot wait for this place. After the initial renderings, I wasn't too impressed. These renderings are 10x better. That Falcon is going to be MASSIVE! I'm excited!!!!!

I have to say, I love the look of the inside of the arena and the front of the arena, but I'm really not loving that side view. Too plain looking. I'm not a huge fan of that sloping shape either.

I'm with you on that. The inside looks great. I like the way that the seating is contiguous all the way around the court. Also, I'm thrilled by the fact that this isn't a basketball/hockey combo arena. Those ALWAYS suck for basketball. It looks like an intimate environment that will be distinctive and provide the electric environment that AA provides for big games.Peregrinner wrote:I have to say, I love the look of the inside of the arena and the front of the arena, but I'm really not loving that side view. The large glass front will have tremendous presence as you drive towards campus and as you approach the building. Also, it will be south facing, so the mid-day sunlight will fill the lobby.
The big iron bird is bad assed. It make a statement.
From the side, we have odd shapes and lots of corrugated sheet metal. Maybe we can find some alternate materials, textures, and shapes. Also, maybe we'll bring in nice landscaping (trees, large shrubs) for the side view. Worse comes to worse, maybe we can paint it seal brown.

Looks like a great facility but that thing at the back on the side view looks like somebody parked a giant semi-trailer alongside the building. Insidewill be nice-I agree that some suites would be good. I'll miss Anderson Arena-well, OK, no I won't. Don't miss Centennial/Savage Hall either.Peregrinner wrote:I have to say, I love the look of the inside of the arena and the front of the arena, but I'm really not loving that side view. Pick out these things....
Bowling Green Wall clock
Falcon Claw Foam Hand
BGSU Pillow
Michigan Student Section and Band
Scoreboard featuring BGSU putting a 112 to 10 beatdown on Michigan
Brown BGSU coozie
Bowling Green State University Pennant
Michigan logo on the right side of the scores table
Tommy Amaker coaching
Random pennants hanging on concourse behind basket
Illinois fans in the crowd
Michigan baseline behind the basket
Michigan basket support, with people sitting on it
Court facing the wrong way
So is it going to look like the above picture or this one?

I'm not a fan either. Anyone else think it looks kinda retro? The part that juts out looks like it belongs in an airport built in the 70sPeregrinner wrote:I have to say, I love the look of the inside of the arena and the front of the arena, but I'm really not loving that side view. Ha ha ha. I was thinking the same thing. I think that it will work, though.
I'm catching a good buzz off of the hi-rez version of the court. There are seemingly endless little quirks in the graphics that have been keeping me amused for hours. The referee looks like he's hovering 4 feet above the court. There are various apparitions throughout the facility. Most of the spectators are looking in the wrong direction. Some of them are even transparent. And then we have the a bunch of electrocuted people with their arms in a V surrounding the top of the seats. Very surreal. I don't know if it's spooky, science fiction, or just a strange dream, but the whole thing would go great with a big bag of dope.

I can't believe no one has commented that BG is not wearing the home whites!!
Also, there's someone in the stands who just bought a new Michigan T-shirt... there's a bright maize shirt with a blue block M on it in their lap.
Also, that student section... I'm guessing much of this image started out inside Crisler Arena.

What he said
Yep. They Greeked in the crowd from Crisler for our arena. Those seats slope up there pretty fast.
I'm not (not) whining, but we went from 8K to 7K down to 5K in a hurry.
The "venerable" AA could have been added on to for less than $36M if the Student Services building property had not ben committed.
Oh well, with any luck I'll still be around to open the new arena.

The Athletic Department was thinking what was best for BGSU.HoopsFan wrote: I'm not (not) whining, but we went from 8K to 7K down to 5K in a hurry.

They looked at our attendance history over the 40 years AA was in use and decided to build a facility that was best for BGSU.
No need to build an 8,000 seat arena that is going to have 6,000 empty seats in it for 25 home basketball games each season and 12 or 13 home volleyball matches. This is not Eastern Michigan.
No need to build an 8,000 seat arena that is going to hold one or two concerts a year because the big boys won't tour in Bowling Green, Ohio since they are already touring in Cleveland, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Chicago in venues with 15,000+ seating capacities.
Build a 5,000 seat facility (and it may actually come in a little less than 5,000 when finally built) that eventually is going to sell out for all home basketball games (both men's and women's) and volleyball matches and everyone in Northwest Ohio is fighting for a THE HOT TICKET in collegiate sports.
BIGGER is not always better.
You would have been shocked to know how much it would have cost just to bring AA up to code without a practice court and additional locker rooms for OHSAA tourneys and coaches offices and meeting rooms and everything the Stroh Center is going to have.

Grant, I was just thinking the same thing. So, how similar is the actual arena to the Michigan's new facility? There seems to be WAY too many Michigan references in the picture for that to not be from Crisler Arena. And is that even really BG playes on the court, or is it Illinois?ZiggyZoomba wrote:I can't believe no one has commented that BG is not wearing the home whites!!

Yeah, and even if they did add all of that to AA, they'd still have the smell!transfer2BGSU wrote:You would have been shocked to know how much it would have cost just to bring AA up to code without a practice court and additional locker rooms for OHSAA tourneys and coaches offices and meeting rooms and everything the Stroh Center is going to have.

Hmm, they did a lot of cool things with the rendering, but the more you look at the details, it looks like the artist didn't put much effort into it.
And if they could put the new logo font style in certain places, why did they use the BGSU 'pillow' for the name on the scoreboard and scorers table?
Ehh, that's nitpicking. I'm excited as hell about the new facility!
