I personally prefer the way BG does it. Simple and respectable.hammb wrote:I have NEVER cared for teams trying to emulate the Bulls' introduction sequence with the dimmed lights and spotlights, etc. I really don't even care for it from the Bulls, but they seem to have been the first ones to do it that way (that I remember). I've been to HS & college games at various places that do that and it just comes off as hokey and forced at every place I've seen it.BGorDeath wrote:I forgot about the scoreboard. As nice as it is, that sure was a lame introduction of their team.hammb wrote:BGorDeath wrote:Some thoughts about the game and renovated arena:
- Toledo sucks. I mean really sucks. We definitely played down to the competition tonight. But, it was a rivalry game on the road, so a great win.
- Toledo's dance team sucked, too. Horrible.
- If slUT spent all that money on the renovations, they could have at least bought some WD-40 for the air conditioning unit I sat under. It sounded like a blender was running the entire game.
- Dropping cows with parachutes from the rafters is a poor attempt to imitate Flinko. It doesn't even come close to the Anderson Arena favorite.
Agreed UT was awful and we didn't play very well. Still I'll take the win.
You must have sat in the same area as I did because that AC was annoying as hell the entire game.
I liked the dropping cows thing. It wasn't an imitation of Flinko, IMO, it was a re-enactment of the Chick-Fil-A commercials with the cows parachuting. Whoever caught one got free Chick-Fil-A, much better than one person getting to play for prizes, IMO.
The arena was somewhat disappointing, but definitely a vast improvement. Didn't seem like they did much with the seating sections on our side (although they did replace the ugly multi-colored chairs). The scoreboard, was gorgeous, however. Seriously, we can only hope for a board that nice in the Stroh. The renovated lobby was pretty nice as well, but the part that used to be the old lobby was pretty much same ol'. It's a vast improvement over what it was, but still feels like Savage in spots. I guess I expected it to be like a whole new building. Either way, the scoreboard makes it worthwhile.
This was the first time I have ever seen a win in that building.
I'll still take Flinko over floating cows anyday.
BEAT THE ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.

I got to see it in Chicago Stadium back in 87, 88 and again in the final season there 1994.... goosebumps!!! Sirius by the Alan Parsons Project is the song used.... and to hear Ray Clay introduce the Bulls in "venerable" Chicago Stadium is one of the greatest thrills of my lifetime!!hammb wrote: I have NEVER cared for teams trying to emulate the Bulls' introduction sequence with the dimmed lights and spotlights, etc.
Right up there with hearing Transfer announce the BG lineups at Anderson.

The JAR (Akron) is eons ahead of AA? Please. I've been in the JAR a hundred times and it isn't as good as AA. The heat is always cranked up to 98 and that glass wall around the track is very annoying...I'll take AA any day over the JAR.bgsufalcon24 wrote:hammb wrote:Whoever caught one got free Chick-Fil-A, much better than one person getting to play for prizes, IMO..BGorDeath wrote:Some thoughts about the game and renovated arena:

To address a bigger point, this is the 3rd opposing MAC arena I've been to now, and all three (EMU, Akron, and Toledo) are eons ahead of Anderson in design, comfort, and aesthetics. And I'm sure some of the nicest arenas in the MAC like Ball State, Northern Illinois, and Ohio really make us look bad. We need the Stroh Center ASAP.

What is "flinko?" (Sorry, but I don't get to many basketball games.)
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

It's a game that the marketing dept cooked up last year, and one that is actually somewhat fun to watch.Falcon Fanatic wrote:What is "flinko?" (Sorry, but I don't get to many basketball games.)
A person from the stands is chosen to play during halftime. At halftime they put 4 meijer cardboard trashcans on the North end of the court and take the contestant to the catwalks above the floor. They are then given these little army men with parachutes on them, and they try to parachute the men into the cans. If they get one in the cans they can then try to get one to go through the north rim and win a bonus prize.
I believe Metzger played once last year, didn't he? It's a pretty fun game to watch, definitely the best they've come up with in years.
