In other words they can't look at the website and figure out what all those numbers mean. :roll:
It'll take a while because whoever wrote the form to submit really probably should never write such a form again ... what happens is it is sending an e-mail to the address [email protected], which is the email address for the Office of Institutional Research. It's not submitting your result to a database - if that was the case, you'd know at midnight tonight. Instead, it's sending all messages to that e-mail and whoever can check [email protected] is going to have to read each and every e-mail and check for this:
USERID = "P001234567"
SURVEY = "No"
Has user P001234567 has voted? If not, then add the user plus No to a data file, then check the next e-mail. It'll take a while, especially if 5,000 plus students vote. So ... the moral of this story ... the coalition kids (hey, I used alliteration) are going to make somebody or somebodies have a really crappy weekend, and the IT department needs to bring in somebody who can write forms better. If I didn't have grad school in my horizon, I'd have submitted my application already.

Somehow, I just KNEW somebody was going to say that. Good lord, they should hike fees just to pay for the hours people will waste counting.

I suppose I shouldn't be shocked. This is the same school whose computers ate my late mothers records a semester before graduation when they were converting them from paper. The same place that was home to some kind of Mac cult where the belief was that by the end of the 90s we would all be using Apple and not IBMs. Lotus Notes anybody? Kill the listprocs?

I'm amazed they didn't have people using hand woven rope with knots to identify the user and tell their tribes story.

What keeps a student with CICS access from spoofing mail from a select few thousand students to swing the vote? Do any of these people get confirmation sent to them to know they voted and how they did?

If campus votes no, five bucks says next week people will complain about how the university fixed the system, just like they took away facebook.

They took Facebook away? Or is that a campus myth of some kind?

It was gone for about 10 hours, coincidentally around the same time the group that is now the Coalition for USG Reform set up a Facebook group to oppose the fee. Naturally, they assumed that, like the Stroh Center itself, it was a conspiracy by the University to screw the students.

Kids these days. They need to go back to worrying about the cameras in the showers.
