Cool renderings but I am a bit confused. Will this new facility have a closed off end to it like Anderson Arena does?

From comparing the two renderings, my guess is that one end will be like AA, but with retractable/removable seats.

It's pretty typical for arenas to have basically a temporary wall/curtain which can be set up to block off one end when using the arena as a concert hall or for graduations. This is largely because events like concerts especially need a backstage area, and no one wants to sit behind the stage anyway, so they create a "backstage" by putting up the barrier. Chances are, the seats on that end will fold up and retract a bit, but I would doubt they are removable.

I'm almost certain that the current AA scoreboard actually came from the Richfield Coliseum back in the early 80's when the Cavs got a new one. Maybe one of the other old-timers can confirm this.
Everything I know says it was from the Cleveland Arena. It was pretty nice back in the day... I remember they'd put first half statistics in the message area at half time... then it got stuck on "buy a brick" or something like that and that message board never worked again. When that scoreboard is down on the floor for maintenance, it's HUGE!
As perhaps the ONLY AZZer who actually spent TIME in the old Cleve. Arena, watching the Cleve. Barons play, I can tell you that the scoreboard WAS from the old arena....my summer job involved working for one of the BIGGEST characters(in many ways) in the Cleve. area at American Searchlight Adv....he BOUGHT the old organ from the arena when it was being torn down, then left it uncovered and dirty, exposed to leaky warehouse roofs etc., til I finally got some canvas and covered it. Was NEVER used again...thank GOD we can thank Mileti for his generosity to his alma mater.

If you watch old NBA footage I'm pretty sure that model is used the Lakers had in the Great Western Forum in the 80s, with a larger ad panel below it.

Scoreboard

Post by MacGuy »

From the drawings I have seen, they all have a scoreboard on one end wall. Many arenas have this including Gonzaga and the new Toledo downtown arena. It works out well for concerts and graduations because you have a large video board above the stage.

It looks like the upper level seats are permanent and the lower level seats are retractable.

Being on the rafters up by it, you really realize it's true size as well. That thing used to come down yearly for maintenance didn't it?
